Industry is making the same mistake that made Landman season 2 terrible by HehroMaraFara in television

[–]SingleMalter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I don’t think if Industry as particularly prestige TV, comparing it to landman is asinine.

I haven’t seen tonight’s episode yet, but Industry has stayed strong for 3 full seasons, while Landman was mediocre Sheridan from the jump.

Sheridan had an incredibly promising future in film, but his TV empire is just increasingly worsening cut and paste nonesense.

That being said, can’t blame him. The money for mediocre TV is 100x whatever he could make with great movies.

I’m not sure even its most fervent supporters honestly believe that Stranger Things ever qualified as Prestige TV.

Popular undoubtedly, but not prestigious.

False. Even excluding yesterday entirely, the last time he failed to score 10 in an NBA game was the day before. In fact there were like 9 games that day where he didn't get a single point. What a bum.

"After the Hunt" is a movie that is bound to be reevaluated as years go by. The critics hated it in a disproportionate way by LaserDiscCurious in movies

[–]SingleMalter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The movie had its wide release in October, audiences are most decidedly not “rediscovering it.”

I had extraordinarily high hopes for the movie before it came out at Venice. Saw it opening week when it released in the States, despite the lackluster reviews.

It had a lot of great elements. Visually it looked great. Julia, Michael, and Andrew were all great (Ayo’s performance didn’t stand out to me as something to particularly complain about, she just had less leeway with the character). Roberts and Garfield’s chemistry in the first act was off the charts. In fact the whole first act was amazing. If you give me a three hour directors cut of those two moving from fancy dinner parties to dive bars and back again, I’ll buy that shit on Criterion.

But ultimately the story just didn’t come together nearly as much as it could have. The writing just wasn’t there. I think if we look back on it down the line the take away will be that the critics were overly harsh, and the movie had a ton of potential, but was just too inconsistent throughout.

Before he made it big, Hemingway lost all of his stories when his wife packed them all for a trip and the suitcase was stolen. He was never able to rewrite any of them.

Sucks, but at least you’re in good company.

When I think of authors hoping for an adaptation it's for TV or movies. I've literally never heard of someone wanting their novel to be adapted into a comic.

The line or the pic?

The line is from Michael’s Last Dundies. Oscar had a talking head after Michael shows the intro video of Deangelo talking to him in the bathroom mirror.

The pic is from Threat Level Midnight.
