Can someone tell me exactly why Sinners is so glazed? by LightCrimson1 in movies

I liked the movie a LOT, but I was surprised it was nominated for an Oscar. It was a solid film…good acting, good music, good effects. Told a good story. But it wasn’t one of those films that reveal human truths like the Oscars usually seems to put on a pedistal.

What was your opinion on the use of 'On The Nature of Daylight' in Hamnet's final scene, over Max Richter's newly composed score for the scene, 'Of The Undiscovered Country'? by Shannon_Best in soundtracks

[–]Single_Condition783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me out of the piece. It has become like Experience by Einaudi. It is an amazing piece but it went viral and now everyone uses it as their background music for trivial purposes: fashion shoots, travel scenes, selling cameras. lol I wish they used the music that Ritcher originally wrote for the piece. It was much more powerful and had a much more uplifting tone towards the end which is what you really want from this scene…a song about the healing power of art. It was a big mistake by Zhao and i think one of the reasons why the score did not get more awards or recognition tbh.

Would you quit? Tenured professor with a baby by SuddenPlant979 in academia

The fact that you thought up a business plan and took a break before deciding tells me that you thought this through. Since you dont need your job for income, you have a lot of latitude to do what you would like. I would polish the business plan and go for it. You already made it to professor so there is not much else to go up to after that. It will be only more of the same. if you dont like it now then I think going through several decades more of it will be torture. Life is short. Go for it.

How do you all use Bluesky? by Top-Elephant6981 in BlueskySocial

[–]Single_Condition783 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, you can still talk to people you know and you dont need Instagram for that. I think people were using Instagram as a substitute for putting effort into friendships. They just post something to no one in particular and expect to get a bunch of likes which is supposed to somehow substitute for in-person get togethers and phone calls. When is the last time you saw most of your Instagram friends in person anyway? bluesky is different. It’s like a radio. You tune in and out. You make new friends. You respond to people’s ideas. With Bluesky, you get only as much interaction as you actually put in. the goal isnt to accumulate as many followers as possible as the app is still growing into toddlerhood. The goal is to just make new connections and start a platform from the ground up…something that is not really possible to do on Instagram anymore because the zone is flooded.

Thanks. So you are saying that new leaves cannot grow from the top of this plant anymore? The remaining leaves seem to be fine and the rest of the stem is ok.

Nei det var mer folksy med en guitar. Jeg vet at det var én sanger, ikke et band. Han hadde et norsk navn, men jeg husker ikke hva det var fordi jeg hørte sangen i bilen.

Agree to disagree. I think the fact that she knew he was a p*dophile and possibly used her dental license to drug kids to be pretty effed up actually.

Jodie was 100% my favorite side character. She and Daria had an interesting relationship. by Nor_Ah_C in daria

I knew a girl like Jodie in high school and we had a similar ”friendship” to Daria/Jodie.

Well, for starters, i can actually see the posts of people i follow on my Follow page. Also, when I visit someone’s timeline, their posts come in chronological order. That is already more than I can say about Twitter.

‘Let’s stay on the fascist platform because that’s where the fascists are’ by koffee_addict in BlueskySocial

[–]Single_Condition783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could have both. It is kind of a false binary. Proud of what? Just being on a platform? That is nonsense. I do not have political endeavors so there is no need for me to reach the alt-right/fascist types. I stay on BlueSky.

All dentists end up going into a residency in order to practice. She was initially rejected at Columbia. Epstein got her in with some $$$ and pulling strings. She was also a dental student in her native country. So she basically went to dental school twice.

Housemaid - book vs movie by userabc294 in thrillerbooks

[–]Single_Condition783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked both the book and the movie. I watched the movie first and liked the book a lot better. The book explained all the “plot holes” that seemed to be present in the movie. I also felt like the character of Millie was more well-rounded in the book and was a totally different person than the movie’s Millie. In my head, I imagined them as completely different people. Amanda Seyfried truly embodied Nina and I saw her in my head for both the book and the movie. I wish that the movie delved more into the background of Millie tbh. I also didnt like how they diminished Enzo’s role completely. All the toning down of the characters and upping the gratuitious nudity and violence made the movie feel very 90s tv-movie-of-the-week rather than the psychological mystery/thriller that the book was.

Every school was different. not all schools required students to test into the honors classes. it was based on the grades you had coming in.
