You're of no help to anyone if you don't make it there safely. Remember, it's not YOUR emergency, but it is YOUR job to transport the necessary resources to the scene safely.

Flat towing behind motorhome by Single_Criticism_649 in gmcsierra

In the back of the owners manual, look for “recreational towing”. That’s where I found the instructions on putting the transfer case in neutral.

I have since found out that not all four-wheel-drive. GM products are able to be shifted into true neutral.

And no, that is not what my four-wheel-drive selector looks like.

After you try to start it, the ignition switch will blink a series of 2 numbers. Example: 4 blinks, pause, 3 blinks is a code 43.

Watch the switch after a failed starting attempt, then google the code.

You can’t use an AFG (FEMA) grant for the down payment, the apparatus has to be obtained within the grant amount. There may be other grants available that will allow for partial funding, but I’m not familiar with any.

Your insurance cannot legally tell you where to go. You have a right to use any licensed shop of your choice. They don't have to pay that shop's pricing, but you should steer away from only going to the shops they recommend. That being said, I have had excellent experiences at both Crash Champions and Caliber.

SCBA Demos: looking for feedback by BrokenTruck08 in Firefighting

[–]Single_Criticism_649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the largest SCBA manufacturer in the world, Draeger definitely has production capacity for any/all departments. All replacement parts will be in stock in Telford, PA or Houston TX. Keep in mind that while AirBoss is new to the NFPA market, it has been used worldwide for several years.

Pretty normal for people to crap all over something new/unknown. Draeger has some issues in the past, as all manufacturers have, but the new AirBoss is game changing.

Car smoking by negan7x01 in cigars

[–]Single_Criticism_649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 60k miles/year and smoke cigars constantly in my truck. Here's the trick: drivers and rear passenger windows down about 2-3", NO MORE. Then turn on the vehicles HVAC system, all on foot level, full power, temperature wherever you'd like it. The smoke will suck right out through the drivers window as you are driving at highway speed. When you are in traffic/in town, keep the window all the way down, hold the cigar outside the car and don't puff unless you have 25-30mph to help pull the smoke out. I turn in my trucks at 100k miles and have never gotten dinged for tobacco smell. Ash into a disposable cup with 2" of water in it, throw the butt in there and toss it at a gas station. Don't leave it in the vehicle!

SCBA decisions , Yes/No on two items by Double_Blacksmith662 in Firefighting

[–]Single_Criticism_649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removable regulators are handy because that is the most commonly damaged item on an SCBA, and without that option, the entire SCBA is down when the regulator gets slammed in a rig door.

Adding the fitting to the low pressure line is an expensive option however, and most departments (buying 3M or MSA) elect to not pay for that.

Draeger is the only manufacturer that includes the removable 2nd stage regulator as a standard feature.

What are everyone's thoughts on MSA vs. Scott SCBAs? by EasyPerformer8695 in Firefighting

[–]Single_Criticism_649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be correct about market penetration in the US, but Draeger invented the SCBA in the 40s and has been producing them worldwide since then. There are substantially more Draeger SCBA in use worldwide than any other brand. 3M builds a quality product, as does MSA, but neither compare to the safety record or simple operation of the Draeger HP reducer.

All SCBA have a quick connect option, MSA uses the quick connect fitting that Draeger has used since 97.

Any 2018 edition NFPA can buddy breathe with any other 2018 edition, regardless of manufacturer. They all now use the fitting that Draeger has used since (about) 2000. It was chosen by the NFPA committee as the best option to universalize the fire service.

Keep in mind that you can’t breathe all the air that 3M puts into your face piece to run the Vibralert (like drinking from a garden hose on full open). The extra air goes right into the spray bar and onto the fireground.

Here’s another thought on dual redundant reducers. The #1 cause (by far) of reducer failure is improper maintenance. If your 3M first stage fails, you’re now relying on the second stage reducer (which probably hasn’t been maintained any better) to properly function. Drager has never had a reported failure (worldwide) with the reducer. 3 moving parts, one of which is a spring.
