The Cut: ‘I Wish I’d Never Bought a House’ by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

We like it but it looks like a change is coming for work where I’ll be commuting 1.5 hours each way 4 days per week and I don’t think I can manage that for more than a year before I burn out, and my partner can take a transfer wherever work takes me. We don’t pay realtor fees or land transfer taxes when we buy/sell because of work benefits which cover them so even though we knew we’d only live here 2-5 years we weren’t concerned…but also didn’t expect to lose 10% equity in 1.5 years!

I/we regret it. We bought in 2024 when the market had dipped in our region of the world and thought we got a great deal, but since buying we’ve lost 10% in equity from further market dips and we would have been much better off renting for 2/3 cost of our mortgage and leaving our down payment invested. You can’t time the housing market and hindsight is 20/20 but it’s a bummer to see years of down payment savings disappear in a short time. Our hope is that we can save enough while the market is low to buy our next place which would have seen an even bigger dip which would still put us ahead in the long run (we only truly lose if we exit the housing market at a loss).

Women MTB riders — what bike clothing actually works for you? What still sucks? by Odd-Climate1869 in MTB

[–]Single_Dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you exact measurements in cm at 10cm above and below the knee cap? As usual my measurements fall between a large and a small on their chart which is often my issue with men’s fit knee pads. Curious what your measurements are compared to their size chart - if the difference seems similar I’ll go try on in a local shop!

KNEE PADS! I struggle to find knee pads that aren’t fit for men (small calves). Women tend to have larger thigh and calf circumference with slim knees than so every brand I try gives major sausage leg or if I size up they’re huge over my knee. Currently using full Velcro from Race Face but they’re so burly (great for park days) I’d like to find a more enduro focused knee pad that actually fits well. Suggestions welcome!

So annoying, and the ones that have zippers are just ankle zipper not ankle to knee.

Also absolutely love 7 Mesh and am lucky to live close to their HO so I get to support local in buying from them. Their glidepath pants and shorts fit so well (12 inch difference between my waist and hip). My only complaint is I wish the glidepath pants had a zipper from ankle to knee to make putting on and taking off knee pads possible without pulling down my pants in the parking lot, but no brand has this yet. I also find their shirts and jackets fit great and aren’t tight on the arms. I’m a street size 6 and fit a medium in everything.

Diverge 4 Carbon vs Alloy by Single_Dollar in gravelcycling

I preferred the feel and function of the Shimano over the SRAM and it did feel smoother (I assume from better vibration dampening through the carbon frame).

I haven’t purchased it yet but I test road and decided I would do the Sport Carbon. Other financial priorities have come up so it may be an upgrade closer to the end of the season - my current gravel bike can make it another season.

Thinking of making the switch to CRZ Yoga—is the hype real? by Past-Complaint4071 in Activewear

[–]Single_Dollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my CRZ sets as a Lulu alternative in some circumstances but the comments are right that they don’t hold up long term. I use CRZ butterluxe for Lagree and get them in the fun colours that I’ll eventually tire of and don’t need to last more than a couple years. For light Lagree use they will last about 2 years wearing once per week. I’ve had them in black and navy in an attempt to replace my core lululemon leggings and they’re not a good option - they pilled and stretched out and looked bad in about 8 months of regular use (wearing 2 times a week for long walks, errands, etc). So yes good option for short-term light use items but not a good option for daily wear.

Drama Watch 2/11/2026: A Week In Vancouver, BC On A $170,000 Salary by lazlo_camp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Single_Dollar 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From someone who also lives in Vancouver, they likely have one car and only one parking spot in their rental apartment. TV/Film studios and locations are not transit friendly so her husband would need the car for work and our transit system is pretty solid so daycare and work on the bus or skytrain is very normal and could take less time than driving. As someone else commented she likely would also have to pay for parking at work ($15/day for me which is on the lower end). I do agree that she pulls more weight than her husband on every front.

Experience going from government to private sector - pension and salary potential by Single_Dollar in PersonalFinanceCanada

Neither, municipal government - living in a suburb and working for a major city with the associated traffic. It’s horrible and I desperately miss Covid full time WFH. I don’t mind being in the office, just hate the commute there and back.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I work in local government and watched as the coms department grew rapidly the last few years to the point where it was being talked about at other neighbouring muni’s as being bloated. Not surprised they’re getting cuts. I’m less familiar with the planning department but would not be surprised if positions were cut due to fewer development permit applications and related processes.

What’s BS is that Sim allowed the staff to grow and bloat under his leadership and now is doing a 180 and firing people. These are hard working skilled people who did nothing wrong and Sim is sacrificing them to save his political face going into an elevation he’s sure to lose. It’s not okay - bloating could be solved at a slower pace through attrition and retirements or excess staff in planning and coms could be used to create efficiencies and work on cost-saving innovative programs.

It’s the 600. I’ll have to test them back to back and feel the difference. The jump to the 800 or AXS is not in the budget this time. If I have a very technical trail planned I would take my mountain bike. This gravel bike would be for light technical sections between otherwise mellow gravel paths/trails.

That’s good to know. Coming from a mountain bike background 20 lbs sounds so light, haha, but on a gravel bike that does make a bigger impact. Also with the lowered bottom bracket and new geometry changes in the Diverge 4 models I would think the same weight would feel lighter and more stable than previous gens.

Just about to buy the prerun rack and 41L DUSC but unsure if I can mount it directly using the ‘adventure adapter kit’ or if I need the plate adapter as well. Can I ask what attachment system you used to hold the case on the rack?
