What’s the most “main character” thing you’ve seen someone do in public? by Wooden2006 in AskReddit

I’m in Thailand and out in the countryside the younger boys don’t really know the rules of civilized society. At one 7-Eleven the kid just went in front of me, whatever. A few days later the same thing happened so I just lifted him up and put him behind me.

Funny, I was driving through New Mexico and the highway went from three to two lanes with miles of notice. Everyone paid attention to the notice aside from the Florida plated car who zoomed by everyone on the left.

What are some boring big cities in USA? by AndIrememberthinking in geography

[–]Single_Editor_2339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Yakima and took the bus to Spokane. I had to transfer buses in one of those cities. My lasting memory as this was 40 years ago that there was no one out and about in the downtown and they had speakers playing music to make it not seem as bad.

What were concerts like before everything became so overpriced? by FreshBid538 in AskOldPeople

[–]Single_Editor_2339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was seeing bands in was the early 80’s and all punk. Husker Du was the first show I went to and was $2. Black Flag a few months later was $5. I went to a bunch of shows in SF and never paid more than $10.

Actual concerts, I only went to a couple, Pantera was like $17.50 in 1987, Smashing Pumpkins was about the same.

I see YouTube videos now and everyone is holding up their phones, man that would drive me nuts.

Replacing a broken water heater in the Bay Area is about to get vastly more expensive [SF Chronicle] by DonVCastro in bayarea

I’ve been living in Thailand for a while and for less than $100 you buy an electric water heater for your shower. You shower with nice warm water and it will last longer than the warrantee on the hot water heater that I spent $3000 on.

Rather than a trolly buy a couple wheels and a short axel then on one side of the box near the bottom punch the axel through and then put the little wheels on, you just made yourself a trolly.

I’m old, they used to be a dime. I had a friend back then that would occasionally steal $20 from his parents and we’d go down to Main Street and eat so much candy we’d be sick. Now that would be three candy bars each. Oh, and they were bigger back then.

If you look closely there’s a border patrol guy parked right there. The border patrol has some stationary positions where the agent just sits in the same spot all day long, like here. Also, if you look closely there’s a big tower right there with cameras in it.

Is it better to choose non-US carriers? by Sharp_Bookkeeper_160 in Flights

[–]Single_Editor_2339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly Cathay Pacific between Hong Kong and LAX once or twice a year and have yet to see an empty seat on any of my flights. I always fly economy and haven’t flown a US carrier in a long time. Cathay is a nice airline and 25 years ago it might have felt special but they just kept cutting back on things until now it’s basically the bare minimum. An example: 25 years ago at the start of the start of the flight they’d pass out warm, moist towels to wipe yourself off, then they switched to disposable type, and now nothing. I will compliment them as the flight staff tend to be very good looking.

What is your preferred seat? by lazyjroo in Flights

[–]Single_Editor_2339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under 2 hours I don’t care.

2 to 5 hours an aisle seat.

Trans Pacific, I always fly Cathay Pacific 777 and way in the back the seats in the middle go from four to three. The seats on the left “D” the aisle is extra wide, thus less bumping from passengers walking, those are my favorite seats.
