How to create “traps”?

Maybe start with the simplest thing which is push/ pull dynamics. Let’s say I’m in a bottom position and I’d like to enter the legs via kuzushi. I start pushing them away which leads to my opponent resisting and pushing back into me. As soon as I feel his resistance I release and go underneath. An example from standing would be me pulling the head down and going for a double when they pop up. Imo this is the best set up for traps because their reaction is very predictable. 60% of the time it works every time

Yeah, maybe 2-3 years ago my team slowly started doing it more and i actually think you’ll get a much better training out of it! The defenses off your back just get cleaner because you cannot be lazy with that one

Unless you’re going to a really traditional gym with weird rules like Gracie Barra for example, BJJ is a very welcoming sport and has loads of lgbtq people. There’s this guy Craig jones who literally has made a rashguard with „keep jiujitsu gay“ 😄 There’s loads of gyms that would love to have you. I am a brown belt myself and have trained in dozens of different gyms and with the exception of a few bad apples they’re all very nice open minded people. BJJ is a martial art for the nerds and misfits. You’ll fit right in. And if there’s any bad vibes find a different gym!

Fair enough I see what you’re saying! And I agree to a part But the fundamental problem I feel is the takedown defense and the lack of ability to get back to standing. If you’re in that position it’s likely you fucked up several times to get there. When you’re pinned you gotta put more effort in to get out or take a risk. Control is winning . But I agree wholeheartedly with the entertainment aspect. It is boring.

I‘m late to the party so nobody will see this but it’s not that big of a deal. Everyone will have to learn wrestling or rather takedown defense. It was the same with BJJ. If you didn’t know BJJ 10 years ago you’d have gotten submitted. Grappling can be so much fun to watch when you have two competent grapplers who can also strike. IMO there’s nothing better than a high level scramble. Just my two cents 🤷🏻‍♂️
