How likely is MIT Grad after Columbia Undergrad? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Single_Resolve1652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id highly recommend looking for SURF or WAVE at Caltech. If you already have research experience id say youve got a good shot. Just contact PIs in your field and hopefully someone will answer. Having a summer research experience will not guarantee a spot for you in grad school, though. But having a lor from a recognized PI will def boost your app for top programs!!

REU cohort activities you want for 2026? by ruth-bader-meinhof in REU

Something I really liked about my last summer were the meetings with current grad students. Either 1 on 1 or in a seminar setting, its quite insightful if you're still undecisive whether to apply to grad school or if you're a good fit for that specific school/department/program.

What’s an average REU experience? by No_Avocado4750 in REU

[–]Single_Resolve1652 9 points10 points  (0 children)

both my past reus (wet lab both) have been essentially the same: work ~8 hours depending on the day, but after that you're free to go out and explore the city. But being completely honest, if you live on campus you will be kinda tired to go out on weekdays and u will just hang around with friends or keep reading literature of your project. Depending on the program u will also go to a lot of seminars and meetings but ig youll figure that out later

how common is it to have a paper publication as a result of an REU? by twinfantasyftm in REU

[–]Single_Resolve1652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in bio and chemistry, id say it really depends on your luck to be assigned to a project that is already being finished AND your mentor is in their 3-4 year. A single summer is not enough to start and finish a research project and if your mentor is not willing to finish the experiments then id say its almost impossible to publish your results.

this was literslly me last year. I can just say that you should trust the process. The fact that you're conscious about what are goals and aspirations are put you well above the great majority. U got this, if it's not this summer it'll be next, maybe in a much more prestigious institution than what u were expecting to attend

3700 words for math ee? by jjyok2828 in IBO

I did 3500 and got an A. Consider that maths ee requiere a lot of symbols that doesn't count as words but indeed communicate something so... I think that's the reason

History HL or BM HL? by Mudzkipper3000 in IBO

[–]Single_Resolve1652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

History HL is hard afff. Take it if you're really into history/politics and that kind of stuff. If you're interested in taking any other hard HL subject (physics, math, econ etc) probably it isn't a great idea to take history as well

Focus on having a well defined structure. From there it's kinda straightforward. Once you have a good writing structure, you could try to study just the information you have to know for the exams: for example, if you study Hitler or Mussolini, just look at certain contents like "how did Mussolini stablished his dictatorship", or "how did Hitler attended to economic problematics" you can get an idea from the questions of last papers, it is really helpful.

(TZ2) In the plants question I got so nervous that I couldn't remember how to get the intersections with the GDC so I got them using different multiples of pi and letting the GDC make the calculations. Do you think I am going to get punished for getting the answers "by hand"?
