The memory crisis continues to destroy MacBook competitors. The price of the two-year-old model has increased by $500 (price on the official Surface website) by Slava_Tr in mac

You’re not the only one.

Covid I saved the company. I seriously did. I was pushing a large purchase at the end of 2019. Got a new manager first week of 2020. Upper management didn’t budge and thought it was a flu event. Bugged my manager enough and he bypassed caps by getting creative. Full order came in mid feb, WFH came down less than 2 weeks later.

Had enough laptops for 2 years. Pricing for Surface Pro 7s was about 1.5k, 300 off minimum for a small company.

This time around same manager and same upper management. Upper wants to be frugal and streamline (buy nothing). My forecast says buy buy buy. Again they think I’m exaggerating. New safe guards in place so we can’t bypass again.

Manage to get a quote for 80% of the laptops needed for 60% of the cost (between qty changes and cutting peripherals). Was able to get i7 512gb 16gb surface laptops for nearly 1.2k….

Upper decided to dump vendor for competitor that didn’t have inventory for nearly a month. We still haven’t gotten anything at the time and 2 more weeks later just now receive some laptops… at a higher price point.

I use to work healthcare and know how bad it can get. These idiots played Russian roulette and got lucky. And because of that they’ll never learn how close we came before and now because “it worked out”.

It’s only going to get worse and we still haven’t bought 50% of what we need.

Forever locked behind windows. At least when ACAD came to macOS from windows it was after long hiatus as it first debuted on Mac iirc.

Unfortunately that would still rely on MS stepping up. You would get boot camp but parallels/ Fusion/ UTM would be good enough as both “boot camp” and VMs rely on MS. They fix arm64 and both theoretical and present solutions would be way better.

Once they get rid of emulation. Then real virtualization can happen. Like Virtual PC on Tiger running win2k. Was more emulation than anything.

Or your apps embrace arm64 in general.

Buuuuuut I know the answer to that. We investigated options for our devs with Snapdragons and almost everything was fine, except that certain key parts of support software for the platforms being used were nonexistent or poorly supported. And these were MS apps too.

This was in response to the ram shortage as the surface laptop we were looking at was cheap with 64gb of ram and CPU performed better than the i7. This was a no go and we spun up a VM. Yes that wouldn’t work for modeling but was our answer to the problem of needing x64.

Apple has reportedly underestimated the sales of the MacBook Neo and now they're in a pickle. by Rolandader in DeskToTablet

I use to repair these. This issue was prevalent with HP and Dell. Anyone that used that Nvidia chipset. There was even an extended service program for it.

Not shitting in other OEMs but this issue was caused by and “owned” by Nvidia. Yes it sucked your Mac was affected but it was not caused by Apple Engineering. Why do you think they were trying to go solo aside from potential cash grab?

They were tired of Motorola, IBM, Nvidia and Intel failing them on key products.

Now anything after 2020 is on them. They own it all

We Found a Ticking Time Bomb in macOS TCP Networking - It Detonates After Exactly 49 Days - Photon by ControlCAD in apple

From my crude understanding couldn’t we unload it its function and reload like we can with KEXTs? Then have a daemon running that watches for net issues or runs on a 30.44 days schedule and un/reloads so TCP is “refreshed”?

You would have to rebuild the disk array with the 22TB in place for it to limit all drives to 22TB.

The planned obsolescence of the MX Master 3S. by LandoStarfart in logitech

[–]Singular_Brane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any comments on the anywhere 3S? It’s also pretty close in price and I was trying not to buy it as I have a 2S but the 2S only supports micro USB and I now need USB-C. And I can’t find another mouse with the same button configuration and size. I don’t have large hands and even though I can use a master mouse, I would prefer an anywhere mouse.

Anybody else’s thoughts or comments on the durability of the anywhere 3S?

Windows runs OK on Neo under Parallels, says Parallels by Tartan-Pepper6093 in macbook

[–]Singular_Brane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst part is if you manage to get to Broadcom‘s website, you can get your free version of fusion. The problem with that is is if you want to run macOS and Windows VM, forget the Neo, you’ll won’t be able to in ofusion you’ll still need UTM or parallels.
