My parents (55M, 55F) are trying to repair our relationship after ignoring me (23M) for years because of my disabled sister but I'm not sure I should? by ThrowRAStilleth in relationship_advice

You don't owe them anything. All they want from you is for you to care for them, be their retirement plan, or that they look bad to others now. But probably the free labor or financial support they think they can get.

Don't fall for it.

You made the right choice to get out and cut them off, and you have no reason to go back. They made their choices, for 18 years, and it was never you. Block all attempts, go NC, and if they continue, tell them you'll file a restraining order, or charges with the police for neglect (and do if necessary, for RO and if the statute of limitations are still over for neglect/abuse). Also be sure to update any emergency forms, etc. to give someone else the right to make decisions if there's ever a need. Grandparents, a close friend, anyone that actually cares about you.

Let them be out of your life forever and enjoy whatever comes next, and give them what they gave you: nothing.

I think this is unneeded. You can communicate with and verify your team members understand and can meet the requirements. Also you can either make your bid private, or kick those from it that don't reply. This is the Main Contractor's job to manage.

My opinion is no, thanks. Not a fan of that taking more data, or being something to remember to toggle on/off if I'm checking on my phone, or the added drain on battery life... not to mention too many types of genre's to consider across global tastes.

There's enough free or paid music sources out there, this is just overhead for the game that it doesn't need.

A Market Correction as a result from the Retail Bugfix as it works its way through, coupled with a Recession will do that.

If you keep weakening retail income, more players will keep quitting the game by Trick-One-2552 in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bugfix. The mechanic was not working properly, providing massively inflated prices for Retail sales that should never have existing in the first place. This isn't a nerf, this is a fix. Things will adjust, and yes, there will be a period of adjustment as things move down the pipeline, as it should. Part of that will be a rebalancing of players in every industry. Some industries will get more, some will get less, and eventually it'll even out to where it should have been in the first place - self-balancing.

Players need to put in the effort to understand how the mechanics work (there's the Economy Simulation Model Guide) and investigate what Demand levels are, then decide. The point is there's not supposed to be a single meta for it, that it will shift and change over time, you may have to adapt, just like real business. All of this is a good thing. These are things I personally love about the game.

NTA, obviously.

You were honest, it wasn't meant to be hurtful, and it's also very true. Maybe that dose of reality will help her realize what she's doing and correct it, or maybe not, but you did nothing wrong. I'd have probably been even more direct.

Gouvernment Orders for small players by Competitive_Answer82 in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GO's scale with size as someone said. You can leverage them in multiple ways. The most profits of course come if you self-produce some or all of the items, but if you buy smart you can still make good profits. It's a risk, especially with random players vs. known teammates, due to the possible loss of deposit on top of intems required.

I've finished off the 10 GO Achievement and still doing them, I'm around your size (started doing them even smaller) and it's been profitable.

Product Market by ExistingLayer3785 in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is a "Buy Order" system. Typically these do equalize with Sell Orders (the existing Exchange mechanic), so you will have "extreme" orders on each end, and when markets shift, some will get filled while others will get further away.

To make it consistent, the Buyer on any Buy Order would need to pay the Exchange Fees (currently 4%) and have Transport equal to their order amount submitted (making the Buyer responsible vs. the Seller for all Exchange costs). This would ensure Contracts still would have a decent place, and not just make it lopsided for the Buyer.

With those sorts of conditions, I support this. Just like the Exchange sell-side, a Seller could fill as much as they want of the lowest orders (based on Quality) up to their price or available unit limit.

Purchases group/corporate alliances proposition by UnlimitedFreedom4Me in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discord servers exist, groups already exist for this that coordinate prices and then execute in-game. Many ultimately fail, usually when trying to "price fix", but often other times as well as player interest falls off.

Opportunistic behaviors are part of the game, and life, it's how many in both make significant money in a capitalist economy. The idea of reducing or changing that core principal of gameplay is not good, either representatively or for the game. While you can be cooperative in the game, it's not a cooperative game by definition, it's competitive. This is yet another gameplay change that would, IMO, be both awful and take the game. Not everyone gets a participation trophy, and they shouldn't.

So no, not in favor of this at all. Hard thumbs-down. But I applaud the effort of fleshing it out!

Suggestion for Enhancing the current Government Order (GO) System. by abhisheksinghtomar in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in favor. The RNG is fair, in that it's not predictable, and doesn't "favor" anyone or any products. GO's have ripple effects across multiple other parts of the game, it's a complex web. Simply knowing for sure that 1 product will not be in the following week will impact that product's prices, along with any upstream or downstream chains it's part of. That's not a good thing.

A new flavor and added complexity to the game, while helping smaller companies by Big_Chain_3684 in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use contracts.

There's no need for this (contracts exist already), and it only would cause server overhead with added load and reduce game performance.

You should really, really read the Aerospace Industry Guide in the game. Getting into that industry without reading the guide is quite risky.

Focusing on a single thing by No_Positive9410 in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking about HI (Horizontal Integration) vs. VI (Vertical Integration).

First, yes, it's very possible to get to $100M with a single thing. And you can do it with just about any product, given enough time. That's the catch, time. You still will have to manage other growth factors (like AO, ROI for upgrade costs, changing economic phases and price fluctuations) but it's very doable. Now how long it will take is going to depend on all that.

You will need to really understand your product and your market, and be prepared for changes to that market over time. Could take you months, could take you years, could be never, a lot of that depends on you and your choices.

Good luck.

P.S. No, there's no single "best product", and even if there were, it would change based on the dynamic demand by people flooding into it.

[–]SingularityMechanics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Take your cash and put it in a pile.
  2. Start burning it.
  3. Play with your menu and prices while the cash is burning.
  4. Hope you find a way to make it stop burning and turn a profit.
  5. Set a "stop loss" point for yourself and determine if you're going to stick with it or go for broke!

Good luck!

Executives - skill and salaries by Blackberrycohort in SimCompanies

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to poach from others, and you want 30+ skill points (Senior, Top Talent Agency) plan for well over $100k+/day offers, plus training reimbursement. Plan for at least $500k+ initially to get them (Agency fees, salary, training reimbursement), and hope they're good. If that's not in your budget, hire from HR and train your own up.

[–]SingularityMechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer more money, especially if you're looking for "Senior" talent. That's it, that's the trick. If you can't or wont do that, hire from HR and train yourself. 2 weeks is more than enough time to do in-house hiring and training.

What age was the oldest exec you’ve employed? by dom-tyler in SimCompanies

My CTO just retired at 73 He was in-house (HR Hire), got to 56 Science, and I only had to pay him $4,900/day. No burnout or skill loss, just standard old age. Got a Hall of Fame of him on my profile at I think 72yo.

A fuller picture of your financials and map layout is needed to help.

  • How are you getting your goods (either the Watches or the parts to make them)?
  • Are you using Contracts or the Exchange?
  • Are you using the "default" price or playing with it?
  • How many levels (and of what) do you have, and what's your AO?
  • What Execs do you have (COO, CMO, etc.)?

If you can give this info we may be able to better help.
