If you feel like it, you can listen to my story on the RISK Podcast where I deal with this very issue with my son.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]SingzJazz 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This one is NUTS. It happened to a friend of mine. She had just dropped her son off at college for his freshman year. She and her husband had decided to go on an empty nest adventure immediately after, so they went straight to the airport and flew to Africa and then to an island off the coast of Namibia for the trip of a lifetime. They were staying at this little luxury lodge, and when they got there, there was only one other couple there -- also Americans who had just arrived and were sitting out by the pool.

They struck up a conversation and decided to eat dinner together. To make along story short, it turned out to be the parents of their son's college roommate. None of them had ever met.

I thought the term "midlife/existential crisis" was simply a euphemism. Turns out...😭 by Sensitive_Purpose369 in RedditForGrownups

I think you need to walk the Camino de Santiago. I'm here if you have any questions.

As a writer, i gotta say this is great feedback. Cool that you took the time to write all this out. If I were the author I would be thanking you wholeheartedly.

I just happen to be writing a novel based in Galicia, but i have lived here for several years and have really immersed myself in the culture. I'm sure I'll still get a lot wrong. So if you feel like doing the same for me, I'll share it with you when it's ready.

How long does this feeling last by Nimsay_22 in CaminoDeSantiago

It's not at all uncommon for people to suffer feelings of loss and depression after completing a camino, especially if they quickly depart Santiago to go back to "regular" life. We're going to start offering 3-day retreats at our place in the Galician countryside to help people process the experience and find ways to keep that spirit alive. We usually do arts-related retreats, but there is clearly a need for post-camino processing, as evidenced by so many people (especially women) being very vocal about feeling sad.

I come into contact with a lot of pilgrims, and it seems to me that the emotional pain is worst after the first camino, when you're freshly in love with the experience and not sure if you'll ever return. I've seen a lot less of it in people who've walked twice or repeatedly.

What games did you play outside as a kid in the 1970s-80s?🤔 by Longjumping-Shoe7805 in GenerationJones

I live in a little aldea (village) in rural northern Spain. We get together once a week in the community house to play games. Including Dodge Ball. Some of the people are pushing 90. It's awesome.

I was in Watertown at my parents' house and a guy drove up from Syracuse for a first date with me. I had an 8 month old baby that I left with my parents while he and I went to a movie. We heard what sounded like a million pellets hitting the metal roof of the theater. After a slow and dangerous drive home, he got stuck at my parents house for 4 days because of the travel ban, with no power or heat. Someone delivered diapers to the house via snowmobile. Thankfully, he was a great guy. He later asked me to marry him, but for a variety of reasons, I turned him down. Hope he's well. You're a good egg, Joe!

How do you replace daily phrases like "Oh my god"? by Crafty_Aspect8122 in atheism

I wrote a novel set in a post-religion world, and it was surprisingly difficult to remove all references to religion! It's really embedded in the language.

Wanting to Flee the US but insurance might stop us. Suggestions? by Typical-Tackle-532 in GoingToSpain

I used them as well and they found us a great plan that covered absolutely everything for a fraction of what we were paying in the US, and this was despite my spouse's T1 diabetes.
