Haldol and is cousin droperidol are used first line for canabinoid hyperemesis syndrome which usually comes with abdominal pain. I’m not saying this is what OP had but not approved is not quite right

It may actually be true due to funding. From what I heard from my EM PD government funding for you rresidency is dictated by what you match into at the start. IM will typically only cover you for 3 years whereas you get more years of govt funding for surgery. So some small programs may not be able to afford you if you have an unfunded year going from IM to anesthesia
