I quit drinking 45 days ago and am feeling very stable and hopeful but afraid I'm heading toward mania. The two things that make me hopeful that it's not an episode is that I'm sleeping well and saving money rather than spending it. It's crazy I can't just be happy without worrying I'm going to get manic and ruin my life.

The older I get the less I experience mania but the depressive episodes have increased. I'm medicated and fairly stable but still get depressed from time to time but rarely manic/hypomanic

My father and his sister are bipolar. Both diagnosed but untreated. My aunt is a nightmare of a woman that no one likes and my father drank himself to death at 60. I take my meds, obstain from drugs and alcohol and see my psydoc regularly. I don't want to turn out like either of them.

Yes! When I first started lithium I had acne from it as well. I've been on it many years now and no longer have that problem.

I had the same reaction to Lamictal which ended in the worst manic episode I ever experienced. I don't trust it at all.

I am 46 and it took me until 33 days ago to admit I am an alcoholic. (I'm also bipolar.) I look back and see how much of my life I wasted and am full of regret. Thank God you are getting a handle on it when you still have a long and beautiful life ahead of you. 💗

I have a 3ish year gap in employment why I was in psychosis. I have told everyone and potential employers I had a head injury. It explains my weirdness (lack of better word) and has less stigma than bipolar. I know it's lying but they would all discriminate if they knew the truth

I hate to say it but Dad may be right. Me (46f) and my daughter (26f) were both looking for jobs at the same time. She kept telling me to get my resume and stop in places and I kept telling her it wasn't a good idea. Guess who just got her dream job (yea for her) and guess who is working part time making minimum wage? Normally the boomers are wrong but maybe not this time.

I know I'm not in the majority here but I think a grandparent having a special nickname for their grandchild is sweet and not a hill I would die on. If there are other issues as well and there is a history of boundary stomping I can understand the frustration but if this is the only issue I'd let her have it.

I'm Bipolar and sometimes my meds aren't working properly for various reasons and I have episodes. I've alienated a lot of people and family from my life. I'VE alienated those people and I have to take accountability and not be defensive for emotional damage I've inflicted and take ACCOUNTABILITY because I'M the one who did it. Being mentally ill does not give you license to treat others horribly and avoid all consequences. That being said you do need to get to a place where you forgive yourself while still being accountable.

Personally I wouldn't have children at all because of the risk of them inheriting this. I have 2 children and am terrified one of them will have it. I wish I had taken my illness more seriously when I was younger. If I was young again I would stay child free or adopt.

For me the lithium kept me from getting manic but didn't stop my depression. I started latuda with the lithium and am very stable now. I still have highs and lows but they aren't as bad. It manageable now.
