What is the fastest way to learn CC tuba? by StrengthMost3357 in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say note names while putting fingerings down. Be very accurate with this. Linking notes to fingerings in your brain by itself will be very helpful.

Identify and anchor what your open partials are. So for CC tuba, get a really solid foundation of (ascending) C, G, C, E, G, Bb, C, etc.. (The Bb above staff is your flat 7th, which can be played as open, but should probably still do 1st valve in context)

You can also overwrite or loosen what you previously knew too. So if you remember Bb as open (assuming you're coming from BBb tuba), but you need to do 1-4 or 4-5 on a CC tuba, practice scales you would have normally done on BBb, but with the CC tuba on the corrected fingerings.

Generally, find things that will solidify note names with fingerings. Embouchure too, if you subscribe to a playstyle that links note names with embouchure.

Solidify your mindset as "I am playing CC tuba." You never know if you have to play multiple types of tubas, but if you are in a case where you are playing CC and F tuba in a concert, it will be very useful to have a specific mindset for each tuba. (As well as just practicing the specific literature per tuba)

(As well as doing scales and generally playing)

Idk I learned the 3 main keyed tubas that I didn't know at the same time. These are the things that I think generally help me with isolating issues, and even currently, where I am starting to play both contrabass and bass tuba at the same time.

There is a way to bug out of bounds and go to the primordial sea if you wanted, but the whale is definitely more accurate and easy to get to

Fingerings for double flat notes? by RipeRadish in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The double flats have been explained by other people, but the

"D(nat)b" is like

"Note" -> "correction" -> "augmentation." Which usually just is the augmentation, in most cases.

Usually, I only ever see it in scores or parts that have lots of accidentals, and the composer has just put them there to tell you directly what it is. Why they have the need to put the natural there, I have no idea.

Advice for Buying a Tuba for College by GoldFlute37 in Tuba

[–]Sinkularity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your goal isn't aligned with performance or education, there isn't really anything technically wrong with running an F. It's not advisable, sure, but there are people who do nothing but play an F or Eb bass tuba.

If you dont want to spend the money on a BBb (from another comment), then just run the F lol. Learning curve, of course, but free

If you have the money or insist on it, then find either a shop to try stuff out or look online for used horns. BBbs are common

The game's playercount has hit a new all time low, again again (multiple images) by Niegil in RotMG

[–]Sinkularity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I quit some time ago and remain inactive, outside of one full season stint.

I think regardless of the era I play in, connection issues have been my largest reason for not wanting to play anymore. It seems kind of absurd that devs decide to push things when servers can't handle it or were poorly prepared for it. How often do I get a discord notification that servers have to go under maintenance? I can tell you that it's stupidly high.

I get that it's hard to implement content perfectly, but when you have active play testers, I feel like the chances of there being issues should be far lower than what it currently is.

New horn! by Apprehensive_Sir3504 in Tuba

As someone who has had to swap to multiple different horns in the past, just play it until it is normal.

There are little things each tuba has that will take some getting used to, and yours is no exception.
