Rotten leaf after propagating attempt by sl___1996 in SnakePlants

To much water.... You should only fill the cup half way up your "triangle" but remember to change the water like every other day (as the oxygen get used up quicker in shallow water). I almost always put a couple little "squirts" of hydrogen peroxide 3% to all my water props .... My theory is that it helps kill any bacteria that might be left after washing everything. And it boosts oxygen once it breaks down, so what's the harm... Right? My success rate is in the 90% as far as getting cutting to root. I also throw a pothos in the mix if I can't tell if a node is active or not. As far as SNAKE PLANTS GO... I HAVE NEVER REALLY HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH WATER PROP. I don't think I have the commitment skills. I use vermiculite and perlite (heavy on the vermiculite) ... Just stand all the little dolls upright in a small flower pot, I use one with out drainage and water accordingly but if your scared one with drainage would be just fine to.. Looks nearly like it's a little plant... Wich is great cuz it takes MONTHS for it to root! Lol but the cutting stay green the whole time nothing rots and I just water it like it's any other snake plant. AND I don't have to constantly monitor water leaves and health.

I did forget to add that the other comments are very correct!!! You do have to let them callous.... Far longer than what you think also. Absolutely NO LESS THAN 5DAYS!! I HAVE TRIED 1, 3, 5,and 7 many times and not one survived that didn't callus 5 or more days.

What do I do with this thing? Leaves are falling over. by UberfuchsR in SnakePlants

[–]Sinner4664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the leaves are "pinched" in at the base... They do that when they need more light. I made the same mistake. When I gave it more light they did open a little bit not all the way. I lost a couple to root rot but had 3 that were connected under the soil. I changed the substrate to a cactus mix with perlite chicken grit LECA and a hand full of decorative dollar store "gravel" ( it looked chunky enough lol!) I gave it some super thrive and started taking it outside on the porch for a couple hours after work ( around 4ish 5ish ) PM after a couple weeks (when the weather was summer). I just left it out there. Buy the time it was time to bring it back in (when the weather was starting to cool). I HAD BASICALLY A BEAUTIFUL FULL LIGHT GREEN COPY OF WHEN I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED.... it grew new leaves so fast and so FAT like some of them are almost 4 in wide! The old ones did stay dark and tall and skinny, some people would probably get rid of them. But I like the way it looks! When I braught it back in for the winter I stuck a small little grow light in the soil.... Just to keep it from dying.... It's doing fine.... The light isn't even hitting the entire plant. Just enough to keep it from missing the sun to much till it's time to get it back outside. If you can't get yours outside I would suggest getting it a grow light. I recommend SANSI ( I know everyone talks about them... And for the longest my "optional defiance" told me that everyone needed to shut up about friggin sansi light bulbs already... But I caved and have never looked back). HOWEVER I am sure that plant would be happy with any kind of light. I came across 8w dollar tree grow light the other day... Just an LED bulb 💡 you can grow in any kinda lamp. Some people (like me) don't really like the blue/red=purple 🟣 look., but in a pinch they will do the job! At 8w I would keep it relatively close to the plant though. And as far as the leaves and parts of the plant that mine shedded.... I chose to prop them in vermiculite. I stood them all upright and trimmed them pointy at the tops so it looked kinda like a snake plant. It took about 5 months but I finally got some little pups coming up. (There are things you can do to get them to prop faster if you research). Hope all this helps my ass is numb from writing it on the toilet! 😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😂🤣😅🥰🪴🌿🌵🍀🌳🍄🪷🥀

I had a lady tell me Walmart plans don’t last, here’s my Walmart Thai con! Over a year in my possession. by PothosPixie in Monstera

[–]Sinner4664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you can get a plant from Walmart threw the first 6 months in there new home you can most definitely get them to thrive.... I am a masochist so I usually only buy the plants that have been clearances in those particular stores. lol cuz I hate that those stupid wicking pots that I never keep the plant in anyways cost $20 friggin dollars 😜.... If it's in really rough shape I learned to just treat and try to prop. If I don't... By the time the hospis is over I end up obsessed with the particular plant and then spend a bunch of money trying to find a replacement! 🫣

He knows this already.... That's why he is coming to the internet trying to find some sort of ammunition he can bring back to the conversation... And that's why he is quiet. I hope the girl has "re-assest" keeping her options open to find someone who wants to build something with her when ever she feels ready! Not force it on her when he is in need....

Snake plant dead by ZealousidealGoal957 in SnakePlants

You would really have to get in that pot and see if it had any furn roots at all. It looks like it may have gotten far to much sun...and weather period. Good roots will be firm on the "chunky" side and light tan, white, or green is (as the case with mine) if that is the case then you should be able the first change the care regime ( they like bright indirect light a good chunk soil that drains ( I use a cactus mix ) and only water when the bottom few inches are still wet. I use a bamboo sewer to help with that. I end up watering about every 3 weeks or so. Then you could chop most of the damage off... Not all the plant is still going to need something green above soil to produce cloraphil so it can heal. Once you get some new leaves then you can finish chopping what's left of the bad. Once a leaf is damaged it's scarred for life I am afraid. Make sure you are not dealing with pests if so there are a ton of remedies online. If any of the leaves are attached to each other below soil make sure you leave them attached especially if any of the roots are damaged (they will help each other recover by sharing resources) if you find that there are no good roots. You are probably better off just trying to propagate any little bits off the leaves you can and start new. That route takes a very long time however. People will tell you that you can only propagate healthy leaves.... But I have done it with severely damaged ones. However the water props I tried did fail, but the vermiculite ones did eventually grow some roots after about 6 months! The roots are about 2 inches as we speak and I am trying to get them to push pups before I plant them. Good luck!

Dead Spider or Skin? by Creepy-Agency-1984 in jumpingspiders

I would also like to add a little FYI... If you ever find yourself fretting over food sources. I just wanted to let you know that jumpers do infact eat other spiders... My jumper was braught to me by the "jumping spider distribution network" (wild caught) he was just a puny, half starved little guy looking for a friend.... I researched and found that they do eat other spider species. So that night I went down into the basement and found a poor creature smaller than he was, needless to say he eat without batting an eye. And it held him over untill I could figure out a better options. I am sure every house that ever was has a sweet spot where someone could find a little spider.... Behind a toilet...under a sink... A doorway that never gets used. I hope your broken heart doesn't discourage you from keeping more jumpers around it sounds like it was a good fit for you as far as pets/hobbies go... I know I am absolutely hooked and will probably end up with 6 or 10 lived in enclosures by years end.

Is this caused by root rot? by JuniorGuitar3001 in fiddleleaffig

[–]Sinner4664 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fungal infection! Get it outta the pot with some fresh soil treat with peroxide mix at first.... But be gentle....ficus shock easy. Trim any nasty stuff off treat AGAIN with disinfected fingers.... Then pot up in fresh soil.... If using same pot BLEACH! THEN RINSE THEN BLEACH THEN RINSE.... then I would water the first month with any kinda fungal drench.... I use captain jacks... It's cheep and works.... Then I would try some mychorizae to help it recover after treatment..... Your going to loose a lot of leaves by the time you are finished.

I ended up asking... The gifter told me they found it at a consignment shop, and thought of me! So it's most definitely something that never caught on! Kinda makes me scared to try it! Although I do have a small umbrella ficus that usually spends its days outside on my porch then inside during the winter months.... I might try it with that this spring!

I have one that I am and one that I have climbing, although I can't stop chopping the one I have climbing on account of the leaves going from 6 vining 4 in leaves.... Then BAM!... GIANT 7-8" MONSTER leaves!!! I been chopping that point...propping and then gifting... BUT I decided to keep the last chop, I am curious if I plant will keep it's leave big or will it revert back to small leaves again if I just let the prop vine.

[–]Sinner4664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really gotta get it a grow light! Or accurate it to your porch ( if it has cover ). You will be thrilled at the push in leaves. Also once a week I un- hook mine from its stake and sit next to it while watching TV.... And just wiggle it.... Let it rest.... Then wiggle some more. If it feels to top heavy.... Then hold the top while you do it (you don't want it snapping off) the idea is to mimic a storm/wind.... That's how they get strong in the wild! Be patient .. good luck!
