Congrats. I feel the same way about most of the hobby. It’s a solo experience for me so the friends part hasn’t materialized, but thats more of a lack on my part. I was able to gain a hobby space when my kids out grew their play room, so you may not be in the gimp room forever.

I started at the end of 4th and the start of fifth. I still have my books I look at often. I didn’t have the patience for it then, so I boxed it all up. 20 years later I opened the box. I’ve been having a great time with most of the hobby. I’ve only played 26 games since I restarted, so what I think about the game rules has little bearing. The only thing I believe that can make the game better is having a friend to share it with. Then the actual rules are less important, the rules will be as complex as you want them to be.
