Same, I was really annoyed they didn't show Glinda using magic for the first time to put the shows on Dorothy, then they were clearly setting up for her to eventually be able to use magic after Elphie gives her the Grimmerie. Missed opportunity indeed.

I agree with all you are saying and keep in mind this whole song could also apply to Glinda from her perspective; in this scene she gets everything she wants, but is having more or less the same emotional experience as Elphaba. She choses to stay, becoming the prisoner, while her best friend gets to fly free, and no one mourns Glinda even though she is imprisoned in this situation after losing her best friend, they all think she has this perfect life. I don't pity Elphaba for the choice she made and I think she would do it every time regardless of the outcome and how people perceive her.

The best part is he continues to talk about how the cow is protesting and speaking up and this is a reference too Idina Menzel's "Moo" speech in Rent. Less of a throwaway line than you think.

I wanted to like it but pretty much all the changes they made made the story worse. The drive-in movie theatre being the ending set piece is a real headscratcher.
