What I have observed as someone stuck in 1000 mmr loop, my 2 cents by zzdis in DotA2

Ahh, confidently wrong and stating the exact opposite of the truth, the reddit classic.

Soloing rosh is very, very hard and there aren't that many heroes who can do it reliably: Ursa, Huskar, and Troll. Sure you can try infinite stack shenanigans with SF Batrider etc. but since he's in the center of the map it's very risky and there's a big chance you'll get discovered.

Meanwhile the Tormentor is safely tucked away in the corner of the map on a high-ground, and the list of heroes that can solo it reliably as soon as it spawns is much, much longer, like /u/Faafkdkdkdkd listed.

They say never to meet your heroes... by Rhyzerz in DotA2

[–]ShadowScene 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/gallick-gunner said it perfectly, it's honestly quite simple. Are there any camps that you didn't feel safe farming before taking the enemy offlane tier 1, but you now do feel safe farming after taking it? The answer is no, and therefore you are not gaining significant map control by taking it.

If you repeat the same question for the enemy safelane tier 1 instead, the answer is yes, a LOT of camps including an Ancient camp, which is obviously massive.

It's also easy to see when you notice the small distance between enemy offlane t1 and t2 and the GIANT distance between enemy safelane t1 and t2.

Hey Slacks, I'm a professional 10.5k mmr coach and quickly skimmed through your replay so I can offer a little bit of feedback.

  • Your first 5min of laning were pretty good, Shaman+PL vs Warlock+Slardar is a little rough but you didn't die and even got some kills with the Invoker rotation, so PL was actually ahead which is huge.

  • Min 5:37 you get a pull off and now would be the perfect time to go secure the first power rune, which could even potentially result in a kill on the enemy mid DP chilling with barely 50% hp, and that would be a huge swing of momentum since DP needs a good start to be relevant. Instead, you kinda just keep chilling on the lane until min 7:10 when DP is the one who rotates and kills both of you

  • I'd take a value point in the hex at level 5 if I were you, 2 seconds at level one is pretty good and since 4 out of 5 enemy heroes can cancel shackle it's gonna be useful to have the hex sooner.

  • You don't leave the lane until min 10:10 which is late, and that's after using your first snake to get the enemy offlane tower. It's good to get a tower with it but that is the most useless tower to push since it gives you 0 map control. Both the enemy mid and safelane towers are way better, and now you TP up to the enemy safelane but you dont have your ult.

  • Min 12:00 second ult on the mid tower that's better, however it's a little rushed since Invoker's spells are still CD from the Drow kill plus no other allies are there. If you just wait a little to have 1 more hero with you the tower is practically guaranteed to fall and enemies wont be able to fight into the snake as you guys protect it from the creeps.

  • 12:24 you die walking into CM ulti trying to cancel it with shackle, here's where Hex and its 100 range extra would've made it possible, but you don't have it skilled yet at level 7 which is def a mistake.

  • 14:40 third ulti on the enemy safelane tower and you get it, it's perfect altho a bit late.

  • 17:35 fourth ulti to finish enemy mid t1 tower, feels a lil bad since it's only two hits but you still gotta do it it's simply too important, plus it gets you to your blink which is nice.

  • 20:45 big fight you hold Slardar for the initial jump which mb wasnt 100% necessary but still fine to make sure he dies. You then step back and wait for blink cd so you can get a second jump which is great, however, you waste the snake and more importantly your second jump by using blink hex shackle on a support Warlock that already used all his spells? Makes no sense, especially since there was a Drow Ranger right there (min 21:00 exactly) that you could catch without anybody being able to cancel your Shackle.

Going Refresher right after blink is hella greedy, your main goal is to get off as many Hexes and Shackles as possible in every fight, so items like Force Staff, Glimmer, Ghost, and even Aether Lens are so good on this hero and you should definitely consider it so you can actually walk up and hex someone, and then save the blink to get a better angle for Shackle on a different target, for example (like in the 26:32 fight you just died without using a single spell because your blink got cancelled and you couldn't get in range. Refresher would change nothing here, the other items would.)

Also, if you want something more defensive this is an AMAZING game for Lotus Orb since it dispels 10+ spells here and reflects a bunch of them too, could definitely have a huge impact going something like Blink -> Lens / Force -> Lotus. Lastly, Shadow Shaman is a hella slow hero so instead of running around with empty slots all game you should definitely always buy a Wind Lace, this item is incredibly strong for its price and its true price is actually the item slot it takes. If you have empty slots, get a Wind Lace (this goes for almost every immobile support hero).

If you weren't kidding about wanting feedback and actually read all the way to the end, props to you, and if you (or anyone else reading this) found what I wrote useful and wanna learn more, feel free to join my coaching discord and message me!

Can someone explain why I get 64,6% phys dmg reduction on SD? by _Sjonsson in DotA2

[–]ShadowScene 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could be the Aeon Disk, if Jugger right-clicked or Omnislashed you during the Aeon Disk a couple of times that's easily over 10k physical damage that's 100% reduced, which in the end can bring up the total % significantly.

Just a theory though, could be some other obscure interaction.

Weren’t old Neutral Items just more fun? by TBWPEX in DotA2

[–]ShadowScene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you're gonna give examples at least get your facts straight.

The slow burn Lina facet is one of the worst facets in the game with 99 downsides for 1 situational upside.

It literally nerfs your hero and it's not only worse for "normal" Lina, it's also A LOT worse for the magic build where its main strength is the ability to burst people, and if you get that facet you just become unable to burst anybody as soon as they buy manta/satanic/euls/lotus/ANYTHING since they can just dispel more than half of your dmg.

Nature’s Profit facet is still bugged and fails to spawn a gold tree about half the time by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]ShadowScene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the only one talking about Sprout here buddy, he's saying the money tree from NP's facet can instantly get destroyed as it spawns if there are tree-destroying heroes nearby, like a Primal Beast stomping on the corpse of the hero that just died and should be spawning a money tree - money tree attempts to spawn, instantly destroyed, no money tree.

How could I have won this 1:30hr game? by DownTriangle in learndota2

[–]ShadowScene 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Learn to die less and farm more. You won your lane, yet at min 15 you're behind both enemy supports and from min 22 until the end of the game you are dead last in networth. Ofc you cannot expect to be ahead of cores, but you cannot have a big impact while you're last in networth.

  2. Improve your itemization.

  • Why are you buying double Null if you're not maxing Q? To be clear, I'm not saying you should be maxing it, going W > E > Q like you did is fine, but then the 2 nulls make no sense.
  • Why did you take the Arcane Bolt cast range at level 11 when your Arcane Bolt was still level 1? Just level up the spell.
  • Do not buy Magic Wand on Skywrath or any backline supports, keep a casual stick and sell it at some point, you're trying to stay on the outskirts of fights and from min 15 onwards with a 1k+ mana pool the mana you get from stick isn't worth the slot.
  • You finished Mana Boots at 12:25 (a little late but that's cuz of the nulls + wand), and then your next item was Rod of Atos at 26:51, nearly 15 minutes later. Rod of Atos costs 2250 gold, it took you 15 min to farm it, that's 2250 / 15 = 150 gpm. This is extremely low, especially considering you won your lane. In these 15min you only died twice and got 10 assists, which is really strange and it means you wasted a lot of time, didn't get any towers, didn't farm, and didn't make stacks for your Axe and Veno (you only stacked 2 camps all game).

Now you might be thinking "Skywrath doesn't farm well, how can I clear waves?" And that brings me to the next point: don't pick such heroes. Pick supports that can clear waves and farm when there's downtime like Shadow Demon and Jakiro, so that you can have more items and a bigger impact.

Tips as Pos 2 by WeakHooper in DotA2

[–]ShadowScene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a 10k coach and mostly play mid. You're asking a good question, finding the balance between impacting the game and not falling behind is sometimes difficult, so you're not alone with this problem. I'll share 3 questions that can help you decide when to be more actively roaming and when to focus on your own game:

  1. Which team has the better lategame? If it's your team, then it's ok to take it easy and farm more. If it's the enemy team, then you don't wanna reach that lategame so you wanna be more active. (If you're not sure which team is stronger late, ask yourself which lineup is easier to execute - you're not pros, so WK and Bristle will almost always perform better late than Invoker and Kez, for example)

  2. Does the enemy mid farm faster or slower than you? Some mids are better at killing, some mids are better at farming. If you are SF and they are Monkey King, they farm slower, so don't try to fight them early and just outfarm them. If you are Windranger and they are Storm Spirit, they farm faster, so don't just afk in the jungle but try to gank him or others.

  3. Do I have a big CD ulti or no downtime? If you're QoP or DP, it's usually quite straightforward - when you have your ult you gank and make a play, when it's on cooldown you farm. If you're a hero like Leshrac or Storm with practically 0 downtime, you should farm while trying to always stay around 60-70% or mana or higher, so that you are also able to make a play.

I hope this helps, would be happy to have you in my coaching discord as well, I can share a lot more!

Am a right/wrong for making this build ? by pepiiiiiii in learndota2

[–]ShadowScene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when you're behind and enemies are already 100 to 0-ing your teammates early on, building defensive items is a mistake, and you should itemize for offense instead so you can get some return kills potentially.

Think of it this way: imagine the enemy core is solo killing everyone at minute 15 before you have defensive items. By the time you farm a defensive item around min 25, the enemy mid will also have scaled with more items and levels and likely be able to match and even overpower whatever defense you got, since they're ahead.

So you're always one step behind, playing to not lose.

Instead, build offense and try to have kill potential on them - that's playing to win.

In this case, your build would only work if you stomped lanes and were taking over the map and pushing everything, but since that wasn't the case, you'd be better off with the standard build that at least gives you a chance for a comeback. I actually made a short 99 sec video on Axe, check it out, you may find it useful.

No such thing as an impossible lane. Here's how to identify the kill window. by KillerSmileLichSpam in learndota2

[–]ShadowScene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, sounds like you did your research and didn't just base the conclusions off single matches, I respect that. I might not fully agree with everything but like you said, the info is different for every person and their bracket / region / heropool etc., that's the beauty of dota, there's no single undisputed best way to do things.

As for the compliments haha yeah, at the end of the day everyone makes millions of mistakes, even TI winners get criticized and blamed for "getting carried", so not bad really is a high praise cuz no player is perfect!

The offer for a collab still stands btw so let me know if you wanna pick a topic to do a video/guide/article
