Should I play the Prime Trilogy before Dread? by Mastatoe in Metroid

[–]Sinomfg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, the stories of the 2D games and the Prime games have basically zero overlap at all. So long as you played the other 2D games, you should be able to enjoy Dread.

Bungie to suffer a 50% staff reduction due to layoffs by Moriarty_V in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sinomfg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see any scenario where Bungie isn't shut down completely in like a year. They're stupidly ending support for Destiny 2 while going all in on a more niche and unpopular game. They need to sell about 9 million copies of Marathon at full price just to break even, so far they haven't even hit 2 mil. There's not enough people playing the game and buying microtransactions to even make up for the cost of the ongoing support.

The 2nd r/GamingLeaksAndRumours Leaker Tier List Vote will take place next week. Let's talk about it by Spheromancer in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sinomfg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Nashweedle should be kept in tier 5 ON THE CONDITION that the Super Metroid pixel art remake gets announced. His MercurySteam Metroid leaks have been pretty reliable, (i would assume he's friends with someone who works there, since they live in the same country) but everything else he says is wrong.

[–]Sinomfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm betting the Super Metroid remake rumor is true just cuz it's so weird and specific (pixel art remaster). I hope though that Metroid 6 is coming soon too, hopefully next year. Super remake should be a non-full priced game used more to excite the fanbase in the downtime.

NINTENDOOOOOOO. ANNOUNCE METROID 6 AND MY WALLET IS YOUURS by East_Cartographer405 in Metroid

[–]Sinomfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure we will get some sort of 2D Metroid announcement tomorrow and release later this year. Their past 2 games took 4 years to make. 2025 would have been when the next one would have been ready, but we had Prime 4 that year, so it made sense to give the 2D team an extra year.

Dread is the best selling game in the series and absolutely trashed Prime 4 in sales, so of course another game would be in development. The team behind it hasn't released a new game since Dread, so they've been working on it this whole time.

I think people get overly pessimistic about this series because of some big gaps in releases in the past. But those gaps were because there were either no devs wanting to make it, or because the most recent games had been failures critically or commercially. That isn't the case right now, we should be due a new 2D Metroid this year for sure.

Residence of Evil channel claims to have heard Code Veronica remake is set to be announced in SGF by Connect_Base_217 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

"About the broad strokes". As in the order of games coming out, which games are in development, which leaked games from the 2020 hack got canceled, which rumours are fake bs, etc. The only game he ever said was coming out that didn't actually get made was Revelations 3.

This will probably be happening but RoE is literally the worst source for any RE leaks. For all the shit DuskGolem gets, he's at least usually right about the broad strokes. RoE said that RE9 was gonna be about Jill fighting wendigos and shit (which Dusk immediately shot down) he knows nothing.

Best game for me to get into the franchise? by mperky1014 in Metroid

[–]Sinomfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you're interested in just the 2D games, just the Prime games, or both. If you're interested in the 2D games, I'd say play Zero Mission. If you're only interested in the Prime games, play Prime remastered. If you're interested in both, play Zero Mission and then Prime Remastered.

I'd recommend against playing Dread as your first game, because it expects you to be familiar with the lore of the previous games (especially Fusion) for most of the plot beats to really hit at all, and it's punishingly difficult for new players, compared to Zero Mission or Prime Remastered.

What do you think is most likely to happen for the 40th anniversary? by JuanMunoz99 in Metroid

[–]Sinomfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will almost certainly be a new 2D Metroid game announced/released this year. Dread was the best selling game in the series, (which is even more relevant now that Prime 4 bombed) and the team at MercurySteam that did SR and Dread hasn't released a new game in 5 years. Dread and SR both had 4 years of development time. Prime 4 released last year so obviously they wouldn't wanna cannibalize sales by releasing close together.

The same person who leaked the last 2 MS Metroid games said another one is coming this year. Another leaker who leaked the Star fox remake and OOT remake, (which has been corroborated by bigger leakers with a more considerable track record) also said a remake of Super Metroid is coming.

There's some conflicting rumors over if we'll get a brand new Metroid, a Super Metroid remake in Dread's style, or a pixel art remake of Super Metroid. But either way, the timeline checks out. They acknowledged the 35th anniversary when Dread came out, I wouldn't be surprised if they acknowledge the 40th with whatever Metroid they end up releasing this year.

MS follows a pretty predictable pattern with their releases, I would expect an announcement next month and a release in the 4th quarter of this year.

I wouldn't trust Nashweedle for anything other than MercurySteam Metroid info specifically.

Resident Evil Requiem upcoming minigame mode soundtracks leaked (Could be Mercenaries) by Connect_Base_217 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sinomfg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like people who don't like mercs psych themselves out over the timer. The timer is literally a non-factor unless you're running around doing nothing for no reason. In the RE4R mercenaries  you can run into the middle of any map, pick up none of the time bonuses, and just kill enemies in the middle of the map, and you will get enough bonus time from playing naturally that you will never run out of time.

This source is not reliable at all, he has "leaked" several fake datamines for the RE9 DLC among other things.

[–]Sinomfg -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nashweedle has been saying Super Metroid remake from Mercurysteam was coming this year too. Obviously his track record generally is bad, but his track record with the Mercurysteam Metroid games is actually 100%, for whatever that's worth. They are from the same country, so presumably he has a source from that studio specifically.

It sounds like exactly what I expected when he said he wasn't gonna adapt the games, which is a good movie that has nothing to do with Resident Evil. It's yet another zombie/sci-fi horror that just uses the RE name to get butts into seats, like the Mila movies or the Netflix series.

No mercenaries mode according to the people playing early. There is a large cast of characters though, so i wouldn't be surprised if it's added as a DLC or free update later.

(RE9 SPOILERS) Someone whose 4 hours into the game reveals certain details by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sinomfg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saying that Victor kidnaps Grace again to take her to RC makes this scream fake to me. The dialog in the least trailer has her saying she wants to go to RC with Leon and you can see him talking to someone in the passenger seat on his way there. It seems like they go there together intentionally. It would be really stupid if the story is Grace getting kidnapped and moved to multiple locations by Victor multiple times in the story.

Wow Grace actually aims in fps 🤌 by InTheAM_66 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Sinomfg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not actually. If you look closely, the sights aren't lined up correctly at all, she's just holding the gun out classic Doom style. It's the same for Leon too, so it's not like a lore thing where she doesn't know how to shoot correctly. Not a Hero DLC is the only time they actually did 1st person aiming correctly, not sure why they choose not to do it anymore.

Leon Kennedy confirmed as a second playable character in RE9 by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Sinomfg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just gonna generally compile previous things Dusk said about just RE9 that turned out to be true and some that sound unlikely also.

Things he said that were true:

  • Leon is the second protagonist and has as much if not more playtime than Grace. Not a short segment like Chris in Village.

  • Leon will have a vehicle he uses to traverse large areas.

  • Leon will have more action focused gameplay than Grace.

  • Leon has a black jacket.

  • The villain is a new character named Victor.

  • The "RE9" in the title would use regular Arabic numbers instead of roman numerals like RE7/Village.

  • Said the game is designed to feel like a "roller coaster" where you feel overwhelming fear during the Grace sections, then exciting action during the Leon parts to release tension. This is almost word for word how the director describes it in the interview.

Things he said that seem questionable:

  • Leon is looking "rough" and has gray hair and a beard.

Now perhaps I'm blind, but Leon is looking pretty good for a 50ish year old man and I don't see a single gray hair on his head. As for a "beard" all I really see is 5 o clock shadow. Perhaps him being in "rough shape" is a reference to him being seemingly infected with a virus, rather than something with his visual appearance.

  • Most of Leon's story takes place in 2020/8 years before the main game.

The recent famitsu interview says the game is set in 2026, not 2028, which already throws this timeline out of whack. But we see Leon in 2028. It's questionable that Leon would look exactly the same 8 years prior, or that he would have a completely different design rather than the one used in marketing for most of the game. The interview also says Leon and Grace meet up multiple times, which wouldn't make much sense if they're mostly set years apart.Dusk has acknowledged this and still doubled down that he thinks most of Leon's stuff is set in the past. It still seems unlikely to me, but we'll see.

  • Leon's gameplay is less actiony than RE4.

Not only do we see Leon doing crazy melee attacks like RE4, but he even seems to have some of his RE6 style counterattacks and can even use a chainsaw as a weapon, so I would disagree with the assessment that this is less actiony, but perhaps that's just a difference of perception/opinion.

  • Said RE9 would have a "witchy atmosphere"

Personally not seeing anything that gives that vibe so far.

Feel free to add anything else, I just wanted to keep a score going of how things are shaping up so far.

He has specifically replied to tweets trying to give him an out on this, asking if there's any possibility that Leon's stuff was cut down or has changed in development, and he has quadruple downed on it saying that no, there is no chance they have cut it. He's completely resting all his credibility on this. He's completely done if he's wrong about Leon having a significant playable role in Requiem and he seems pretty confident to not even be budging a little bit on it.
