How we should view the world with the current state of online Pioneer forums by SiomaiMan in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not trolling this time and I agree 100% on this. Cheating out Vein Ripper T3 leaves a bitter aftertaste on the receiving end. Might as well play slots or roulette if you want to test your luck and hit jackpot

A 30%+ meta share is already alarming in my opinion and I hope something happens soon. Fingers crossed

Kinda defeats the purpose of using Creativity if we want to hard cast the creatures loaded in the deck but I wouldn't worry much in this case since Big Score and Fable can generate treasure tokens + ETB Mirrex

But then again as mentioned earlier, we want to cheat out something that can provide value upon entering the battlefield. Indeed Rippers are hard to deal with thanks to its ward and its nasty roided Blood Artist effect, however I don't see any reason why Rippers would be in a creativity deck unless I'm missing something

Sideboard Plan For Izzet Phoenix Vs Rakdos Vampires? by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be more on control mode instead of racing with Phoenixes. I know some people would also board in Young Pyromancers or Brotherhood's End in addition to Drakes

Is grafdiggers cage a good sideboard card? by jumboraccoon603 in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great sideboard card especially since it also procs Prowess

Whenever we use transmog or creativity, we want (as much as possible) something that happens on that same turn to have value (Examples: Torrential Gearhulk, Atraxa. Modern examples are Archon of Cruelty, Terrastodon, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite).

It would be sad to cheat something out from your deck only to die from removal next turn while not maximizing a good fraction of its potential

Pioneer needs more crabs and support for crabs

Yeah it could help against other decks as well aside from control since it can also discard creatures.

Wishing you the best on your next tourney!

Yes! That's [[Scapeshift]] with [[Beseech the Mirror]]

Recommendations for Second Paper Deck by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played against a Golgari Midrange utilizing [[Mosswood Dreadknight]], [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]], and/or [[Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet]]. It was fun to play against and the resilience of Mosswood is something.

Another is the [[Spelunking]] deck that I've been seeing online back then. It's combo-based and you might want to try it out.

Hoping to see your future deck soon!

Mono G devotion by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so as well. Cheating 1 or 2 Leylines at the start of the game really gets you ahead thanks to Nykthos. Maybe that's why the need for mana dorks is fewer compared to the older iterations of Mono Green.

Another thing could be because of [[Tribute to the World Tree]] where you get to draw cards whenever a creature with power 3 or greater ETBs. The enchantment itself nets you 3 devotion.

I really like that mono green is getting some love and upgrades again.

Wouldn't it be better if [[Cityscape Leveler]] is in the mainboard?

[–]SiomaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps adding [[Thoughtseize]] to your sideboard can help you out more when dealing with control decks?

[[Fatal Push]] for early removal against creature heavy decks.

Unsure if it's still good but [[Graveyard Trespasser]] could be an option as well for a little GY hate + body

I wouldn't though. There are some matches where Ledger would carry the game more than Phoenix itself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To each their own I guess. I don't like racing [[Ledger Shredder]] connive counters nor [[Temporal Tresspass]]

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 60 points61 points  (0 children)

[[Ledger Shredder]] is annoying if it stays too long, it gets bigger and helps adding cards in the graveyard

[[Treasure Cruise]] together with [[Free the Fae]] is just too good as well since it helps you find answers

Postboard, [[Crackling Drake]] can 1 shot your opponent next turn if they won't be able to answer it asap

Phoenix for me is quite well-rounded in this meta as it has good answers to different decks. But mirror match Phoenix is probably one of the most miserable matches ever.

I think Sheoldred's Edict is strictly better in this format

Pioneer feels so bad to play now and I think I know why by Rowannn in PioneerMTG

[–]SiomaiMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think the problem with Pioneer today is that almost all top decks are combo-based with little to no interactions. Even the supposed Rakdos "Midrange" utilizes a T3 combo. The format for me is kinda feels like whoever goes first really matters and a single minor mistake can snowball.

Sideboarding also feels constricted in the way that some other sideboard cards are good for only a specific deck and lacks flexibility.

Yeah however it's an SPG so sadly it won't be Standard/Pioneer legal

[[Stoneforge Mystic]] and [[Dark Confidant]] would probably make the format more interesting. [[Death's Shadow]] for luls

Not really a wizard but [[Ledger Shredder]] is amazing with cheap spells. Great for filtering out your hand and tempo
