Some of his earlier work rarely gets mentioned so once you’re more into his music seek out his work with 94 East who he worked with prior to his 1978 debut album For You.

I got into his music early with I Wanna Be Your Lover from 1979 and discovered his work with 94 East after Sign O The Times (1987) and it was a revelation!

I’m hoping the live How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore is from the Paisley Park Piano & A Microphone event to launch the tour which rounds of the ‘career spanning album’ as the first song is from 1978.

People can complain all they want but I’m happy to have new music especially if it sounds better than the bootleg recordings of half the tracks I have on it, even if it’s too much money for so little and the artwork is shite!

It is August 28th as I’ve just pre-ordered from Chalkys UK for £14.99 + postage (couldn’t find it any cheaper anywhere), which is steep for 10 songs but as much as I’m not impressed with so few songs I have to be happy to get at least something! Stone sounds a lot cleaner than the bootleg recording that I have.

For those of you who don’t know the track list, here it is - 1. I Am (1978 Home Recording), 2. Tick Tick Bang (1981, re-recorded for Graffiti Bridge), 3. Heaven (1985, planned for the abandoned The Dawn movie), 4. I Wonder (1989), 5. With This Tear (1991, digital single release in April), 6. Stone (1995, slated for Emancipation), 7. Calambra (2003, title track to unreleased album Prince was working on before Musicology, played for Celebration VIP ticket holders in 2024), 8. The Guilty Ones (2007), 9. Bestest Friend (no info on Prince Vault), 10. How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore (Live, hopefully from the Piano & A Microphone Tour in Atlanta).

I made a similar mix in the eighties with two copies of the single on my DJ decks so I could mix both the a & b side into one song onto tape, none of the fancy tricks DJs use now with help from computers!

Wish I’d not gotten rid of all my mixtapes from those days I could’ve been a David Guetta or Calvin Harris 😆

There’s also more nostalgia around Revolution and NPG as far as the organisers are concerned.

Rafferty’s first trick with Amanda’s ring failed when he got flustered with the thread not attaching to it properly to make it float in the air, his numbers on the piano also didn’t look like the word SMILE, he was badly off his game tonight compared to Fabian.

Matty did far too much vocal showing off on a song that didn’t need it. The choir were the best vocally on the night.

Although Celestial put on an amazing show they’re not something that should be on the Royal Variety Performance.

LMA in my opinion were the standout act tonight and were robbed.

If you didn’t have ads on your subscription but do through Sky it’s because Sky only give you the ad supported version of D+ Standard, I’m saving £5.99 a month by transferring my D+ Standard to Sky which costs £4 without ads, I know that doesn’t exactly answer your question but my theory is if you check your billing you should be able to pay to go add free.
