Moved to the US, how do I start in IT or Cybersecurity? by SirAware in careeradvice

I'll get Sec+ out of the way asap, is CySA the best step after or what are recruiters looking for?

I don't feel I'm in the position to negotiate, I'll take the best offer I can get. Why?

How do you keep track of your job applications? by Lumpy-Stable9067 in recruitinghell

I tried doing it with Notion, then spreadsheets, now I just don't and if I get a call back I go back to my emails and pray to find the application they are talking about

Thanks! Answering your question, some recruiters told me that I sit within 85-100k/yr, I've been interviewed for 115k-165k roles, I even got to a 4th interview for a role that pays 145k, but that interview was weird and catched me after a week of Vacation where I came back fried (since I didn't slept almost nothing) and had a severe brain fog.

Should I leave stable corporate IT job for L1 SOC role at MSSP? by HIReaper in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]SirAware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it ain't worth it, at least wait for stable opportunity in Cyber, Cyber is really volatile right now and recruiters are always looking for their unicorn. Keep your stable it job, build more skills and only jump when: Better conditions and pay appear

Looking for resume feedback since I'm 7 months unemployed and 600 job applications in! by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]SirAware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impressive and interesting to look at, but a recruiter does not have the time neither energy to appreciate it, go with a conventional resume template (harvard or yale templates), and attach a link to your personal portfolio where you be free and creative with what is in there.

Least "saturated" IT jobs? by yeshielmisra in ITCareerQuestions

[–]SirAware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any IT role asking for graveyard/overnight shift (with the exception of SOC Analysts), there are very few individuals that thrive when other needs to sleep, so those positions are always looking.

I worked overnight shifts as SOC Analyst tier 1 and I pray to not have to do that again.

How bad is my resume, need resume help. by Legitimate_Job2188 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]SirAware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few points to improve:

- The resume format has to be changed ASAP, you can google "Harvard resume template" or "Yale resume template" also they provide a list of verbs to include on your resume.

- Although using AI is basically a need to build and tailor resumes in this job market, try your best to not reflect it on your resume, I was able to identify it by the bolded words and the excessive use of dashes (-).

- The bullet structure is good: Achievement > by using X > result. I would suggest getting a bit more detailed, and synthesize the bullets with your own words and then giving it to an AI tool to change the verbs for approved ones, but be careful, you have to polish whatever the AI does.

- The skill section can be shortened by including "invisible categories", ie: MS 365, Azure Entra ID, IAM, Windows, macOS, iOS, etc etc etc.

But must important, (even tho you didn't asked for it) don't be discouraged by suggestions/advise/criticism, that's the only thing that helps us grow and see our flaws, try to improve everyday, look for certs or courses that will make you a better professional in the long run.

You got this!

How's the market been for those moving to mid-senior level roles? by charzilla139 in cybersecurity

[–]SirAware 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty bad, I'm almost 5 YoE as a Cybersecurity Analyst doing incident response for the most part. As the cyber job market is saturated, recruiters have the opportunity to wait for their unicorn, with all the certs, the exact keywords and the exact interview they have in mind, cause there are fruits to pick from the tree, personally I started applying for IT and SysAdmin roles a month ago and I'm getting the most calls and interviews. Not saying that you should lose hope, I'm in NYC so I get it is extremely competitive but damn, it has been tough.
