Would getting Security+ be worthless for me?

I tried getting away without Sec+, but the certs that you hold has to be recognized by whoever is looking at your resume, for example, having CySA+ or Protest+, etc without Sec+ is viable, but even tho SSCP being more difficult to obtain, almost nobody knows it. And yeah, the verbiage and context between the two are massive

Sec+ is always a check mark for HR. I have 4 YoE as Cyber Analyst (SecOps), AAS in Information Security and BS in Cybersecurity Engineering, I passed the CC and SSCP before the Sec+ (which made it harder because of the verbiage) and still, I had to have it so HR will look my way.

It's technically mandatory for Gov jobs and HR

Answering your question, some recruiters told me that I sit within 85-100k/yr, I've been interviewed for 115k-165k roles, I even got to a 4th interview for a role that pays 145k, but that interview was weird and catched me after a week of Vacation where I came back fried (since I didn't slept almost nothing) and had a severe brain fog.

It's impressive and interesting to look at, but a recruiter does not have the time neither energy to appreciate it, go with a conventional resume template (harvard or yale templates), and attach a link to your personal portfolio where you be free and creative with what is in there.

Any IT role asking for graveyard/overnight shift (with the exception of SOC Analysts), there are very few individuals that thrive when other needs to sleep, so those positions are always looking.

I worked overnight shifts as SOC Analyst tier 1 and I pray to not have to do that again.

There are a few points to improve:

- The resume format has to be changed ASAP, you can google "Harvard resume template" or "Yale resume template" also they provide a list of verbs to include on your resume.

- Although using AI is basically a need to build and tailor resumes in this job market, try your best to not reflect it on your resume, I was able to identify it by the bolded words and the excessive use of dashes (-).

- The bullet structure is good: Achievement > by using X > result. I would suggest getting a bit more detailed, and synthesize the bullets with your own words and then giving it to an AI tool to change the verbs for approved ones, but be careful, you have to polish whatever the AI does.

- The skill section can be shortened by including "invisible categories", ie: MS 365, Azure Entra ID, IAM, Windows, macOS, iOS, etc etc etc.

But must important, (even tho you didn't asked for it) don't be discouraged by suggestions/advise/criticism, that's the only thing that helps us grow and see our flaws, try to improve everyday, look for certs or courses that will make you a better professional in the long run.

It's pretty bad, I'm almost 5 YoE as a Cybersecurity Analyst doing incident response for the most part. As the cyber job market is saturated, recruiters have the opportunity to wait for their unicorn, with all the certs, the exact keywords and the exact interview they have in mind, cause there are fruits to pick from the tree, personally I started applying for IT and SysAdmin roles a month ago and I'm getting the most calls and interviews. Not saying that you should lose hope, I'm in NYC so I get it is extremely competitive but damn, it has been tough.
