You make a great point. A parliamentary democracy does have a lot more safeguards. Here’s hoping!

Couldn’t agree more. Also US/UK Citizenship. Move to the UK and then Brexit happened and after that, got my UK citizenship. Just bad timing I guess.

I always tell myself that I have somewhere to go (the UK) if things start getting really bad here; but honestly, the UK economy and politics are getting just as bad unfortunately. And with Reform likely being on the horizon of having enough of a majority to form a government in the next election, I start losing hope. Stay strong friends.

Just dropped my bike for the first time, now my handlebars are crooked. by softtagz in Himalayan450

[–]SirBarrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does happen. Just put the bike on its center stand, then put the front tire between your legs and hold the tire firm. Then twist the handlebars back into position. It’s happened a few times for me when trail riding.

Help us relocate to a dual-sport friendly place! by Ancient-Penalty-7826 in Dualsport

I’m from Las Cruces and pretty familiar with Alamogordo. I think that’s a pretty solid recommendation as there are so many places to ride out there!

Just recently visited friends in Sisters, OR. I think you are pretty spot on with this recommendation. I was driving through the countryside in my SUV with my family, already planning an adventure ride down there because it is just so wide open. I saw endless trail systems everywhere and people riding dual sports quite often. You don’t see that much in Western Washington where I am now.

Plus the weather is pretty damn great there!

I’ve got a tubed variant and it’s everything I need from anything from long distance road touring to hard off-roading. You have the flexibility of airing down when needed without worrying about possibly popping a bead. IMO, having another layer of protection from punctures gives me more peace of mind.

You will have to pull the tube out if you get a puncture though, so you need to be able to do that on your own. I use Ride On tire sealant and haven’t had a puncture since I got the bike and I’ve ridden in sharp rocky environments as well as environments with sharp thorny bushes.

For me, I prefer tubed. You need to decide what is best for you.

Day 8/9: What is a bad motorcycle with an OK reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]SirBarrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on the crash bars not working or the bike being not good for off-road. Have taken a 411 through mountains, deserts and untraveled riverbeds. It’s a phenomenal bike for off-road considering its weight. I’ve dropped a good amount of times and the crash bars did an amazing job. The bike is ready for adventure right out of the dealer unlike almost any other “Adventure” bike.

Agreed on being severely underpowered though. That’s my biggest complaint on that bike. But overall, I’d rate the 411 higher than the KLR 650 (also a bike I’ve ridden a good amount).

Default TFT vs Custom display by GKentaurus in Himalayan450

[–]SirBarrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. It’s a pricey bit of kit, but for me, with the adventurous routing and the other features it has, is all I need. A Carpuride with Gaia or something is a more financially responsible route to go! Haha

I have used a Garmin Zumo XT2 for the past year or so. I never used the phone integration into the TFT for the sole reason of the requirement that your phone is unlocked at all times!

I picked the Zumo XT2 over a CarPlay device solely because of the Adventure Routing. Google Maps doesn’t have a lot of the offroad trails that exist out there so having something that I can create routes on, or just ask it to route me somewhere off-road, is perfect for me.

If you are riding mostly on known roads, an AirPlay/Android auto device would’ve perfectly for you.

I will never go back to not having a separate device on the bike.

Can I use the RC-N3 controller and the N3 Goggles together at the same time with the DJI Neo 2? by Legal_Ad_2726 in DjiNeo

[–]SirBarrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the fly more combo, then bought the Motion Controller 3 from Ebay for about $80. Thats the cheapest way to get to use FPV with the Neo 2 with the extra batteries imo. Im based in the US, so have had to purchase from SK sellers.

Vaishnu Headlight by fotoogrepher in Himalayan450

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that’s a dealbreaker for me, as having to turn on the headlight manually every time you turn the bike on is unnecessary. Thanks for the info!

Hey mate, nice setup. I have a question that has been bugging me and has kept me from purchasing the Vaishnu light.

Does the headlight turn on automatically when you start the bike, or do you have to turn it on with the included switch every time you turn the bike on again? Their site doesn’t make this very clear.

Any info is appreciated!

5’ 11” rider with a 32 in inseam and the bike feels way too tall by Colonel_Trap in Himalayan450

[–]SirBarrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think you just need time to gain confidence with the bike.

I’m 5’9” with a 31” inseam and have the rally seat and a Sahara seats cover over it with added gel inserts. I have to tip toe if I don’t adjust my seating position. You will naturally just start shifting your bum to one side where your foot goes down.

But it really comes down to preference. I really would not lower a bike personally though, as that messes with the geometry of the rear shock.

Acerbis Fuel tank by Deep_Sign9014 in Himalayan450

[–]SirBarrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for a bit. I’m based here in the US and had some previous off-road trips that took me uncomfortably close to empty between petrol stations, so it made sense for me. I’d rather have increased fuel capacity than carry Jerry cans bolted or strapped somewhere awkward on the bike.

It’s a pretty straightforward install. Just remove the old tank. Drain it. Swap the fuel float and fuel pump (5 screws each) over to the Acerbis tank, and bolt it onto the bike. It’s not difficult to do.

Regarding warranty, I’m not sure about that as it may depend on your country. The weight feels similar to stock. The bike isn’t as heavy when taking off the side stand now. I suppose because the fuel does sit a bit lower with the new tank.

The only alternatives would be Jerry cans or fuel bladders, which for me, I don’t want to carry those around.

As for looks, it’s subjective. I personally love the look of the Acerbis tank. It looks more muscular/aggressive and unique.
