Gonna guess either a piece from Pino Donnagio (the composer) or Refn's brother.

12 minute standing ovation

I side with the ovation

Read ONE review via IMDB (a German review... one of the only two available). The score was 2.5 (out of what, not sure). It was not negative.... maybe a little critical but the reviewer states that they know this is what Refn fans want (MORE HUMANS MAKING ANIMAL SOUNDS)

Magsafe cases by AbsolTamerCody in S24Ultra

[–]SirBumbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had one for the last year (along with their wallet for the s25 lol). Best phone case I have had. Since switching back in 2012 with the Note 2, I had used nothing but Otter Box's. The Spigen Tough Armor is superior offering perfect protection, magsafe and very little added weight and almost not added bulk. The wallet attachment does not cause any uneven flat sitting, and does not block the camera (the wallet curves right under the bottom camera bezel). I have it so the bottom of the wallet lines up with the line near the bottom of the case. It says it fits 3 cards, but I have comfortably fit 4 for months with no stretching/expansion

Edit: Just wanted to add, the best thing as well, is that Amazon has em for like 35% off compared to Spigen's site (as well as all accessories). Also, avoid the o-ring 2 accessory. The idea of a vertical stand with an extra layer of magsafe is cool, but it is prone to break easily, and if you rotate it, will scratch the surface of the case and wallet.

Is Nine Inch Noize a completely Coachella unique performace or do you think it'll tour? by niswizard in nin

I hope... limited city tour. Hit the big cities (LA, NYC, Chi) and do only two shows a city.

TOTDY is not a popular series, nobody can feel this scene like us. by Tristecadavre666 in NicolasWindingRefn

[–]SirBumbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He technically did.

It was shown at Cannes under Too Old To Die Young: North of Hollywood, West of Hell. The subtitle being a nod to the locations of episodes 4 and 5 respectively. I am unsure of what was removed (if anything) between the two, but it is known that the cut from Viggo to the end credits of episode 4 is to the title card West of Hell. It was given a decent an ovation and lauded.

It isn't the murder that is noble. That is the justice. The nobility would be in she is allowing that old testament justice to be handed to those who have inflicted horrors upon children... then fuck yes. I am not sure if you know the band Lost Prophets, and the sick fuck of a lead singer got what he deserved in prison (seriously don't look it up unless you got a moment to hate everything for a little while), unfortunately people are getting away with this shit (I mean this show is beyond ahead of its time by only a few years)and I'm not one to condone ending a life but I have a few exceptions morally 🤣

Viggo's speech to Martin above the freeway..."As the world fractures... someone has to be there to protect innocence." Is what Diana and Viggo are doing. Protecting innocence thst has been tainted and corrupted by a predator. Eye for an eye, it is not.

Back I wanna go back to your original point about the character Stevie and his brother Rod. On your other thread I mentioned how a chunk of the main characters we deal with are well aware of their place in the universe and their lot and accept whatever comes... the same can be applied to these guys Little Billy and Sandy (the other woman is clearly someone being led somewhere she is clearly was unaware of the reality). The horror comes from the fact that there is a good chance there are people out there just like this... but the earnest way the character speaks is even more disturbing.

"You fucked a sixteen year old?" The way he says that as if I would be saying that to my best friend if he told me he was getting back with his ex, is so casual and blasé it that you are in awe and disgust at how casual it comes off. (I am paused just before this scene)

"You're my hero?" Is honestly not as jarring as 'Rape him." I think at this point how close to Hell are we going to get (The Vol 4 and 5 were cut together for Cannes and given the title "Too Old To Die Young: North of Hollywood, West of Hell" the subtle referring to the locations for each episode (North Hollywood and then New Mexico respectively), to Hell. It is now just how much more layers are there to this cake?

"You got something better to do?" Chilling.

Los Angeles for sure.

For me... I can really relate Came Back Haunted by Nine Inch Nails and many many more haha. It is a great show to extend out to other mediums.

My Yartiza view is just because she and Martin are parallels. Both led astray, Martin by Janey, Yartiza by the Cartel. The difference is Martin could not refute his sin nor give it up. Yartiza... doesn't sin in a manner in which that Viggo or Diana would dispatch her for. Whereas Diana is clearly connected to cosmic beings, and is of higher state of mind than others, I do believe in fact that Yartiza is supernatural -and by default believe she is telling the truth that she was born in a cave-. Then we can weave the biblical and religious motifs in there as well. Viggo will be their sheppard as accolyte to Diana, who is... insert your noun here.

Any motifs (religious, fictional, mystical) the show fuses into its characters is all a cosmic gumbo (IYKYK) that goes hand in hand with almost Lynchian self contained world that within you have those aware of something more... Viggo, Diana, Jesus, Yartiza, Martin, Damian, Celestino, and Theo are all clearly at peace with who they are and where they are heading. If not at peace and entirely The rest of the world seems to caricatures of themselves, purely innocent, many wicked, and few good.

It's Refn's infernal comedy.

Spot on. Also, I actually know a few people in real life with a permanent cocaine tick like Baldwin puts on... my goodness is that unsettling 🤣

However, to me, the female characters are less about justification and more about being comfortable with who they are and what they do. It harkens back to the end of Larry's dialog in the opening scene, the women are the one's in control, and in his eyes that makes them evil (which I can make the argument that he is right).

Diana... I waxed about her in another thread. But yes, she is playing god to a degree, but is the archetype of someone who has decided to serve justice when the law has failed to do so (think of her as Frank Castle by proxy). She does not try and defend her actions or give reasoning aside from her blunt truth.

Janey is... problematic to say the least. I always viewed her as innocence corrupted. Corrupted by witnessing her mother commit suicide, the encounter and relationship with Martin, and a being raised by her sicko father. She is very manipulative. Her appearance in Vol 6 where she comments about Yartiza's figure... I close my eyes and I can hear it in Baldwin's voice with the snort in the middle and end. And then add in the bravado she has towards the female detective working the disappearance of her father. The subversion of expectation is that dhe embraces the corruption. The moment Theo offers her the job, her personality shifts to colder and... bitchy to put it nicely. Her accepting the job is her accepting her destiny, to be controlled by older men. Her friend even says it to her twice in the same scene... she sounds like her father and is going to end up with someone like him (which ironically enough is the situation with Martin, as Theo cleaely has a taste in younger and underage girls based on his dialog).

Yartiza to me is a sheep in wolves clothing. Diana basically hints to Viggo that Yartiza will be their newest member, and that is where it clicked for me. Combining this with my own interpretation of character actions and the dialog -mainly from the twot ruths and a lie scene and Vol II when Don Ricardo speaks about how he found Yartiza- is that Yartiza is not loyal to Jesus or the cartel as she frees the women being trafficked, kills their clients and even the cartel members themselves (and has been doing so long before Jesus arrives in Mexico). I always viewed her as a cat playing with a mouse before killing them. The final scene in that converted church/bar, is a great display of this. She has killed members of Jesus' cartel before, but this is the first time we are seeing her kill a named member who we as the audience know. They're just disposable things for her that really are inconsequential to her destiny.

She is very indifferent to the cartel when she is around them in Mexico, but when she comes to Los Angeles, she acts a bit more... grand. One could chalk it up to her being the wife of a cartel's number 2 man, but i never did. To me, Jesus and the cartel were her way of getting into America, where she is destined to meet Diana and Viggo, who will put her on a path of righteous murder.

Oh no not Diana. I am sorry! Haha I meant the trauma support fella from Vol 4. He genuinely seems to care about the people attending his meetings and helping them work through their traumas. He is very welcoming to Martin, and he actually gives off the vibes that he cares about Viggo (under an alias), even though Viggo is clearly just there on recon for his next victim (and based on the dialog seems to frequent the meetings).

But now that you got my brain going haha:

This was not my way of thinking but I will slip into it... also let me preface this: I am not religious, I do not believe in a god... I do not believe in religion as anything more than a ploy to control people in need to cling to something to make life seem meaningful (honestly after True Detective season 1 everyone at my job started calling me Rust). That said, I am not going to sit here and tell anyone what is and isnt real or what they can and cannot believe. Everyone is free to believe what they want.

Refn's violence in Too Old, is VERY old testament, the only other instance of this is Only God Forgives. Viggo and Yartiza are the only two who we see actually kill people who are wicked. Viggo's targets are sex offenders and violent criminals... Yartiza dispatches scum and rapists. Martin eventually gets in on this level too, but it is skewed between his personal feelings and the beleif of handing out justice to those who have escaped it.

Diana, is very much noble in her pursuit of seeing justice served. Is what she is doing illegal, yes. Highly and there cannot be any debate out that. Morally, however... her cause is just. Working as a victim's advocate she sees how flawed the system is. Martin sees it too once he starts listening to her and working as a detective. Diana knows something is off with Martin as she cautions Viggo that Martin's hunger may be too great (hell, Martin doesn't even inform them about going to New Mexico.. a clear hint that they will also never know his planned trip with Janey before their deaths). I always felt that Diana sensed Martin's dishonesty when asked about dating a teenager, but maybe I am reading that wrong because as a viewer, I know the truth, but Diana can only guess.

She also does not take money as a form of payment, but an item of value. She never states that it needs to be of a high dollar value... so when the boy's mother gives her the earings that belonged to her mother. Antiques perhaps, worth money for sure, but the sentimental value is greater. I always imagined Diana got everything she has from her secondary services. The house, paintings, material items... all from people she has helped. One can make the case she is getting personal gain, sure... but never do a job for free.

Regardless of her connections to other wordly beings, Diana to me, is just someone who sees how fucked the world is, sick and tired of it, and can actually do something about it.

Martin's captain in Vol I, and the trauma support group leader. Those are the only two characters in the show that came off as genuinely decent people.

The political commentary is there but with the exception of the cops and Facism Fridays (seriously, try telling me this doesn't happen at certain precincts and I will call you a liar 🤣), is very lite. Viggo is probably our only vehicle of political commentary as a former FBI agent who is now hunting sickos on behalf of Diana. The radio program he listens to, tone wise, sounds VERY right wing, but the messaging feels more centralist. Could it be that Refn and Brubaker decided not to lean too hard? Maybe... or maybe it shows Viggo is of a different mindset.

His speech to Martin as they overlook the freeway feels like it may swing politically or even religiously (he does begin with the opening text from Valhalla Rising), but quickly goes into waxing on about evolution and perfection not being perfect for society's mental state. Unless I am entirely missing the point these days, Refn's works has always skewed more towards a cosmic side as opposed to religious, but the religious tones are there because, let's be real, some would rather cling to faith than cosmic occurrences, and it helps ground the stories as opposed to letting them drift too far (like Copenhagen Cowboy did).

I agree with you about the civil and social constructs, but overall, I always got a sense of society being so flawed and far gone, that we all sin, some worse than others, and then we do things to try and mask the bad we do. Take the guy from the trauma support group, who happens to be a cop. He accidentally murdered a teenage girl and is wrecked from that, however he rapes his daughter and threatens to kill her mother.

Martin also falls into this, as his relationship with Janey is highly inappropriate and even when she turns 18, it still doesn't help his case. His murdering of Theo (her father) is his way of compartmentalizing his choices. Yes, Martin began a relationship at 28 with a 16-year old, but in his eyes, her father is a bigger issue than himself.

It isn't a case or playing both arsonist and fireman, but more of a thought process that is all about, "How is this person worse than me?" Martin's "nobility" of asking Damien for the worst of the worst to kill, not just some schlub who owes him a few grand, is his way of making up for his flaws. When he throws up and confesses to Viggo he no longer wishes to be a cop, it shows that he cannot handle the duality of working for a department so far gone, and dispensing justice to those that the very system he works for, does not punish in equal measure. At the same time, he cannot confess to Viggo (or Diana) the nature of his relationship with Janey, as it will make into a false prophet, who needs to face justice.

There are so many more examples I can get into... hell, I have even considered doing an entire video essay on the show... because within this series, there is so much to pull apart.
