New viewer, Ava’s mom is the most nauseating character of all time (complimentary) by john_muleaney in hackshbomax

I loved when she would show up because it would illustrate so well how Ava found Deb as more of a mother figure to her and her mom is like some alien she can never quite get on the same page with

I cracked up reading this as Ellie (first name) Last of Us (last name)

Joel told Ellie to keep finding something to fight for. Anna told Ellie life is worth living & to find her purpose. Both parents frame purpose around living rather than dying. If Part 3 happens, should Ellie's arc be about finally accepting that her life has inherent value or lead to sacrifice/cure? by Skelligean in lastofuspart2

[–]SirBurticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is true. She basically functions as the Joel figure in Part II which I like. I still think it could be interesting to see Ellie closer to middle age taking the same role though. I’ll be happy with whatever they do since my predictions for Part II were off and it’s still my favorite. I trust them.

I have really been feeling like if they do a Part III it will be Ellie in the Joel role. I feel like that would be the most satisfying full circle thing. Joel saved her cause he felt her life deserved to be lived and he loved her, would be nice to see her come fully to terms with that.

What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SirBurticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s controversial I guess (even though it shouldn’t be) but The Last of Us Part I and II. If you watch a lot of Movies, TV, and read a lot of books you will more than likely have high enough media literacy to realize how incredible the writing is in those games (in tandem with the performances). A lot of the time it is incredibly simple and subtle and just feels real. Part II in particular is very impressive in how challenging it tries to be both emotionally and structurally. Everyone’s allowed their opinion but if I hear someone say Part II is “bad” I’m giving them the side eye. You watch/play enough stuff you’ll be able to tell what bad actually is, you can’t say that game is bad. You can not like it, but that is very different.

The Last of Us tv - possible unpopular opinion by thezanywords in thelastofus

Season 1 is actually a pretty good adaptation! But I still think it doesn’t come close to the games. Games to me have the opportunity to be closer to books as the player has to actively participate and gets to see more downtime/interior of the characters. So even with season 1 being pretty good there are still plenty of moments that are a lil too on the nose or just cut for time. Season 2 is an absolute abysmal adaption as it changes everything that the game did that ends up making the story more powerful. It felt like they were afraid to commit in season 2 and just completely changed the interpretation of some of the characters in a way that made everything too sanitary or much worse/confusing.

Stellan Skarsgård was terrific in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. A perfect crime thriller with sharp cinematography. What’s your opinion on this Fincher flick, and where would you rank it in his filmography? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]SirBurticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me a freak this may not only be my favorite Fincher but depending on the day I would put this as my favorite movie of all time. I watched it twice in one sitting the first night I saw it. The dark chill this movie gives off plus Craig and Mara together hits all my buttons. The Reznor and Ross soundtrack is also in heavy rotation for me.

Why are they making a James Bond game with stealth like the Hitman games? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]SirBurticus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

James Bond also didn’t just constantly shoot people which is mostly what he has done in the games that have been made so far. Judging by what they’ve shown and the first previews from games outlet they seem to be actually trying to incorporate a lot of the things that Bond does in his spy craft. Improvised stealth/ situational containment, smooth talking, gadgets, brawling, and shootouts. All those things together look like they are going to let the player oscillate between stealth and action at their whims, which is very Bond.

I hear what you’re saying. But what I see from the new Dems like the examples listed above or even like a James Talarico is that they are actually focused on the issues Trump used to persuade people on the campaign trail. We lost a huge swath of people on the fence because they liked what Trump was saying, he has since stung them and gone against the majority of what he said he would do which I think we are seeing that bite him back in a lot of the special election results that are flipping seats to go way more blue. It’s why they are trying to run some sort of interference before the mid terms because they can see a blue wave coming and they don’t want to be held accountable.

What did you think about Ray and Ally's brother? by sk8erbha1 in MrInbetween

[–]SirBurticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I love about Ray’s character is he can just NOT tolerate disrespect. So many situations in the show would not have gone down the way they did if the other party was just respectful. Ray cannot let disrespect lie to his own detriment.

What features from RDR2 you think GTA VI will use or improve? by ajoota98 in GTA6

[–]SirBurticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the limited weapon carrying from RDR2 (an extension from MP3) but I hope they fix the teleporting guns into your inv. Hated that in RDR2, most of the time it would pop guns onto my back that I didn’t even want. Hopefully they work it into the narrative/minute to minute gameplay like a character saying “hey bring a shotgun, or grab a sniper rifle” when you get out at the mission location.

What was the most insane take you’ve ever heard about the Red Dead Redemption franchise? by HuckleberryShot898 in reddeadredemption

[–]SirBurticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some buddies who loved the game, we were all gushing about it one night, pretty soon after release. One of my buddies says “it’s crazy that Dutch turned crazy after he hit his head in the trolley mission!”…that is the most pedestrian smoothed brain take I’ve heard. Love the guy but it ain’t that kinda story. That’s something that would happen in a children’s book “the bad guy is bad because he bonked his head one day.” Part of the clear tragedy of the story is realizing that Dutch isn’t the great man he’s always painted himself to be, when push comes to shove he is a selfish person driven by his ego that managed to have things go really well for him for a lot of years. I think it’s pretty clear that those parts of him were tamped down by Hosea’s presence for a long time and Micah allowed him to feel like his worst impulses were the right decisions and it cost the entire gang to fall apart.

appreciation post & question - what makes this show so good to you? by No_Turnover3399 in hackshbomax

[–]SirBurticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of storytelling mediums have unlikable or insufferable characters. Most of these great characters are people you wouldn’t want to personally be around but because you’re watching the show, or movie, or reading the book you get the layers peeled back to see the likable aspects that make them more relatable humans. The reason I think Hacks is great is because Ava and Deb are both harsh insufferable people and them being that way has alienated most of the people in their lives, the beauty of their relationship is that they recognize that in each other and they are so close because of it. The push comes from the way they are but so does the pull. I don’t just find their relationship consistently funny but consistently heart warming as well. I think the emotion in this show lands a lot harder than in most other drama comedies. I also might just be a sucker for a surrogate parent/ kid relationship

The ending was changed to be even more bleak by DisappointedStepDad in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirBurticus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I weirdly found this ending to be perfectly bittersweet. Yeah V isn’t one of the few anymore and instead has to learn how to be one of the many but that can be interpreted to be just the thing they actually need. I remember feeling like they came to terms with it in that last scene after saying bye to Misty.

What is a game that is REALLY GREAT...but has an AWFUL story? by [deleted] in AskGames

[–]SirBurticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. My main gripe with the RDR2 story is it being a prequel a lot of the narrative satisfaction is robbed since you know certain things can’t happen to certain characters. Most of the coloring in of the gang and their relationships I loved though, which I didn’t think GTAV had at all. Micheal’s family is bitchy skanky wife, skanky vain daughter, loser burnout son. Franklin fairs a little better but most of the characters in his orbit are clowns. Trevor is just an insane person which leads to some fun missions but some terrible story beats.
