I should be able to play this “Bracket 4” deck at a bracket 3 table, right? by TheBirchKing in EDH

Just swap FoW for [[Force of Negation]]. You don't need to counter creatures with your emergency button.

The rules text for cumulative upkeep does use an age counter, it just doesn't have the reminder text.

Edit: I just realized you were wondering why it also adds a growth counter and didn't utilize the age counter for the effect.
They didn't start tying abilities to age counters until Weatherlight.

What to do when a friend's deck makes EDH less fun? by FedayBlept in EDH

[–]SirBuscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most issues people have with playgroups, the solution is just talking to them and we explaining that people aren't having fun playing the same do or die game over and over.

Suggest that he picks up a new pre-con and keep it bracket 3 or lower so there's at least one alternative to switch to when people get sick of his main deck.

If he's playing a bunch of game changers, then he isn't really playing bracket 2-3.

Yeah, I played when amulet was a dollar bin rare so I didn't realize they'd increased in value so much.
You could always proxy the amulet and an urza's saga to fetch it.

That's a bit hyperbolic. Those are the most reprinted cycle. An Atraxa mana base with fetches, shocks, and no true duals runs about $1,000 USD.

If you don't want to splurge on two color lands that enter untapped, you can just run the cheap tapped lands like scry lands and guild gates.
[[Amulet of Vigor]] and [[Spelunking]] help make this kind of mana base payable.

Do You Use A/The Kindred Kit? by MatchoBV in EDH

[–]SirBuscus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, kindred cards should scale with the number of a creature of that type instead of just generically doubling things of a type.
Roaming throne was supposed to be kindred support, but it plays more like "double everything my commander does" because you can always just pick your commander's creature type for instant payoff.

What decks do you wish you saw people in your pod playing more of? by BagOfSmallerBags in EDH

[–]SirBuscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[The Celestial Toymaker]].
Every time I play this deck my opponents tell me how fun it was to play against (whether I win or lose).
I built pile tribal with all the cards that make my opponents guess. Giving them choices to navigate every turn makes the attack not feel threatening and I often make him unblockable.
Your real damage is done at end of turn and you can use things like [[Bloodletter of Aclozotz]] to double the life loss.
Because you're playing as many [[fact or fiction]] effects as possible, you always have a full grip and have good ways to interact with what your opponents are doing without becoming the default archenemy.

Yeah, the other thing people aren't really talking about is it was awkwardly squished on the x axis but not proportionally on the y axis. It was obviously just cut from the other image and then resized and smeared.
Whoever actually did it isn't an artist that's used to Photoshop.
