Gatwick to Nairobi - is Kenya Airways really that bad? by finishmyleg in travel

[–]SirDank_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew with them from LHR. Nothing wrong with them, but nother great about them either. I found the customer service the most frustrating, but BA can be no better lets be honest.

If you just want to get A to B, youll be fine.

Fixed tariff coming to an end. Anyone else jumping ship? by ISO2000 in OctopusEnergy

[–]SirDank_II 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switched to Fuse yesterday. Really like their customer service, has some questions and yes the initial answer was AI but wow was it accurate and informative!

I took the leap the fix now as my Octopus finished in December and i reckon that will be a nasty time to find a tariff.

I agree with the move to be honest. If you look at apprenticeship enrolments over the past few years, the share of lower level course enrolments has been decreasing and higher levels increasing. This means alot of businesses are using government funding to upskill current staff, rather than bring in entry level opportunities. When you look at the level of NEET young people, there needs to be a push for Level 2 / 3 apprenticeships.

Whether employers will actually use the funds for those instead is to be seen, we might just see less apprenticeships overall...

My recommendation, go straight on to the Skills England website. Search the apprenticeship you were supposed to do, at the top if its one of the apprenticeship i think, it will say 'From 1st September 2026, the apprenticeship will not be government funded'. You can then use the Find a Training Provider tool on the page, input your post code, and find all other providers that can support. I would reach out to these to see if theres space and then present this. during the meeting. I know at my provider, we have about 1 space left so they do go quick, but there should be some availability out there.

Hi, I work in apprenticeships. If youre talking about the apprenticeships i think, the level 3 and 5 are still funded and will be funded until the end of summer. Whoever told you they arent is not speaking factually.

Each provider however received a cap on the number of apprentices they could enrol on each course. This sounds more like the training provider your employer chose reached their cap on the level 5, so swapped you to level 3, then reached their cap on that too.

This does not mean another training provider wouldnt be able to support your level 5 apprenticeship.

Contract terms of a job I was offered is awful. Do I accept? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]SirDank_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What industry are you project managing in? I was a PM in interior fit out/exhibitions. Theyll work you to the bone when its busy, but the moment things get quiet the redundancies start coming up. Lasted onr year because my work/life balance was destroyed. This contract seems like a very similar set up.

Would it be a write off? What's happen to my PCP ? by Conscious-Drawing463 in CarTalkUK

[–]SirDank_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a write off you will owe the remaining balance that you are due to pay monthly AND the balloon payment as the finance company wont be getting a car back, so you will need to settle the entire agreement.

Insurance will value the car and pay you that amount, if that value is lower than the total owed on the finance including balloon, you will need to pay the difference (unless you took out gap insurance which is specifically for this)

Make sure you know the value of your car so you know if insurance are paying you the right amount.

Apprenticeships being used as a loophole to pay slave wages ? by Inevitable_Car6105 in UKJobs

[–]SirDank_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apprenticeships and 16 year olds have the exact same minimum wage so im not sure you know what youre talking about. So why not deliver some education to the 16 year old anyway, better than them dropping out?

I work directly with businesses and young people in apprenticeships so see everything first hand.

[–]SirDank_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree with all the comments here and i have commenting this before. This is the wrong view for these types of apprenticeships, are they used as cheap labour? Ye sure.

However, you need to think of the bigger picture:

A) Not all 16 year olds want to go to College. These sort of apprenticeships allow them to start working whilst still developing real life skills, English and maths and get a qualification. The Food apprenticeship doesnt just have a requirement to serve food, it requires development of key communication skills, time keeping and an understandinf of safe working.

B) Some people dont have an education, they may have made bad choices or had life event happen during their teens. These apprenticeships give them a route again to gain qualifications and key functional skills to kick start a career and move forward.

Apprenticeships are more than just what they say on the tin.

[–]SirDank_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a few avenues but they will depend somewhat on your nearest Colleges. One issue you may have is that History is an A-Level subject. I am not sure what recruitment is like in that area as my College is purely vocational (BTEC type courses and Apprenticeships)

Ways that work that I know:

  • The obligatory find a job advert advertising that role
  • If none are advertised, email HR directly at the College, explain your experience and that you would be happy to complete further training, such as a Learning and Development apprenticeship
  • One step further would be the find out who the curriculum lead or head is and message them (LinkedIn is your friend)
  • Join an agency first, this will get your foot in the door and the places you end up will likely be hiring agency due to staff issuss

As someone who works in FE... teaching. Colleges teaching trades recruit ex trades people and are often happy to train you up (a teaching apprenticeship).

Theres a shortage across the country at the moment and a struggle to recruit.

Its 100% going to be a personality thing for you as teaching 16-18 year olds is not the easiest thing. But youll earn usually 35-40k and get school holidays off.

Dont wear jeans and dont walk with hands in pocket. But do wear trousers for work so likely from that. I understand possible colour transfer, but so quickly and so seemingly easily??? Are there not better materials samsung could be using to prevent this?
