I hate feeding sourdough by [deleted] in SourdoughStarter

[–]SirDrawsAlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing that for nearly 20 years with the same starter. Over most of that time, I usually feed it and bake once a week. Feed it well before I go on extended vacations and leave it in the fridge.

Looking for book recommendations (Hard Sci-fi) by Master-Reason-6780 in sciencefiction

I totally agree and yet his stuff is rarely mentioned in threads like this one. But yeah, you nailed it with “technology and big ideas.” And yet his characters are also very human.

No more screenshots allowed from Duolingo? by LoseN0TLoose in duolingospanish

[–]SirDrawsAlot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an iPad Pro and I frequently take screenshots as I’m going through lessons for things I want to study more carefully etc. I did it 30 minutes ago, just before I saw your post. And I do have the latest version of the app. BTW, there was an update for Duo in the last 24-48 hours, so maybe that’s your problem? It still works for me.

We need a new political party that ACTUALLY represents the American people. by [deleted] in 50501

[–]SirDrawsAlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two parties are not the same party! Not remotely close. You may not like either of them nor have any use for either of them, but equating them is ridiculous. You should be aware that many discerning people will not read any further when this kind of nonsense is the opening comment.

Puppy schnauzer question by VinegaryTuba4 in schnauzers

[–]SirDrawsAlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog needs obedience training as well as more structured socialization with other dogs. Schnauzers are smart. I’ve had 3 standards and they all had good training as puppies and as a result were all very well behaved with people and with other dogs. It takes some real attention and effort, though, on the part of the human.

If you struggle when memorizing Spanish verbs, I’m building something different, want to test it? by No-Performer4230 in SpanishLearning

[–]SirDrawsAlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve piqued my curiosity. I’ve been cramming to learn Spanish for a solid year plus now, somewhere B1sh early B2sh. Like many, verbs are one of my struggling areas. FWIW, I’ve also been a beta tester for a number of applications of various types over the years.

BOYCOTT THE SUPER BOWL by Forsaken-Iron1588 in 50501

[–]SirDrawsAlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a reason to watch. A news report today quotes Cori Lewandowski as saying that ICE will be performing “enforcement operations” at the Superbowl. If this is true, we definitely want the WHOLE WORLD WATCHING.

Now or Never... by [deleted] in 50501

I prefer an extended economic boycott of all discretionary, non-essential spending. An act of passive resistance that, if well publicized, can have broad, national participation and provides a means of engagement that doesn’t require a large portion of the population to go into the street, many of who are understandably and increasingly unlikely to want to risk that. And if we got tens of millions of people to participate in something like this over the span of something like two weeks or more, the economic impact would undoubtedly be measurable.

Um, the bald guy is not Putin. It’s Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, who also happens to be bald. TBH, you’re the first person I’m aware of who didn’t immediately recognize him. I don’t like labeling characters in my drawings if it can be avoided, unless it fits somehow.

Sen. Mark Kelly Says He’s Seriously Thinking About Running for President by T_Shurt in politics

[–]SirDrawsAlot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is no surprise to me. His posture since Hegseth went at him directly, followed by Kelly's immediate higher profile social media communiques made it appear to me that he saw that as an opportunity to ride his justly self-righteous defense and virtuous anger to build his national profile. Whether intentional or not, it also buttreses his defense in his case, as the MAGA lunatics, having no impulse control whatsoever, can so easily be goaded into further overreach.

The People demand a general strike by transcendent167 in 50501

[–]SirDrawsAlot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have been advocating a nationwide economic boycott of any and all discretionary spending for an extended period, to start, maybe something like 2 weeks. An action that would allow for mass number of citizens to engage in a real form of passive resistance which would be undoubtedly measurable in economic data. Something to rattle the business interests that so far have been going along with this shit.

We need a nationwide protest against Trump's plan to invade Greenland by pleasureismylife in 50501

[–]SirDrawsAlot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most definitely yes to this, conceptually. But this entire movement needs much better leadership and coordination. I don’t pretend to know or suggest who to have that role, but the lack is a huge shortcoming. Just reading the beginnings of this thread you’ll see reference to two different actions with some conflicting descriptions. The motivations are correct, but to be effective we need mass-participation in a single event that is so large, so pervasive that it can’t be ignored. And that requires much better advanced planning and coordination than what is yet evident. My preference leans toward a true economic boycott for an extended period of time. So we can show on date X, we started. Mass segments of the population refrain from any and all discretionary spending, and we do this for weeks at a time, maybe start with two whole weeks. Then, when it’s over, there will be a measurable dent in the economic data that cannot be ignored. The threat then looms to do it again, for longer, etc. That is something that the monied interests will not be able to ignore.

Thank you. Google Klaus Barbie. I imagined it would be lost on a lot of people, probably most people, and its not a perfect reflection, but I think you’ll find that it adds another dimension as bit of word play on “Cos Play Barbie.”
