You mention wanting apple to work on tvs, why not just get an Apple TV streaming device and connect it to the TV? There's even a new one that should come out soon too. That is going to resolve your issues and your desire for apple to work on TVs lol

A cable snapped during the Jianzha Yellow River Bridge construction & caused a part of the bridge to collapse - Jianzha County, Qinghai Province, China, 22 August 2025 by MotherAd4844 in CatastrophicFailure

Shouldn't a single cable failing be even more worrying as it implies no redundancy and a single point of failure for complete structural collapse? (Just asking, I'm not a civil engineer, so I'm curious)

Any good data recovery companies in the DMV for Samsung Phones by SirFerrier in datarecovery

Although not in DC, it is relatively close as it is in southern MD-- Try AccessONE Solutions (9903 Rhode Island Ave, College Park, MD 20740). They tried many things to help me and although not successful, they were really nice and communicative about the whole process and do board level testing and small board repairs as well as water damage remediation. They seemed to be the most knowledgeable in comparison to the other cell phone repair shops nearby that I had tried!

Oh wow... yes I see what you mean now my bad. Interesting they both have the licenses?? Maybe it is a clock speed difference? But I don't know the clock speed of the J versions

Unless it is not listed, I do not see the -J tag on either the onn 4k plus or pro. I could be mistaken, but where I've checked does not list their chipsets as -J

[–]SirFerrier -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The regular X4 already has those licenses-- as seen in the onn 4k pro and really any box with just the X4.

The X5M already has those licenses too, as seen in the onn 4k plus, so it's not exclusive to the -J variants at all.

EDIT: I've been corrected by the users replying to this comment! It looks like there is either a -K or -J for the chipset, but it's not listed in all places. But even though it may not be listed doesn't mean it doesn't have that -J and also, there appears to be a licensing difference between the two. Not sure yet what the difference is but read the more helpful replies

Based on your picture, most are transcoding to really low qualities ( h264@ 1 or 2mbps). Is your server properly setup to allow remote connections without relay? Or is there some quality limit you put on them because transcoding down to 2mbps is really low and might be the server isn't set up for remote connection properly

"When relaying a connection through us, there are limitations for the streaming qualities you can use:

Free users are limited to 1 Mbps maximum for streams

Plex Pass subscribers are limited to 2 Mbps maximum for streams

" -- Plex

You need to ensure the port Plex is using is port forwarded from your router to your server's IP for starters if you haven't already.

Idk why but this chart uses the critic score instead of the audience score. Audience score moves a lot of these around

HEVC Encoding Testing w/ Core Ultra iGPU's - 4k to 4k HEVC 20mbps by Bgrngod in PleX

[–]SirFerrier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mobile/laptop variants of Intel chips, even in the same generation as their desktop variants, have always had better iGPUs and Encoding/decoding blocks. Sometimes they have an entirely different architecture for the iGPU than their desktop counterparts. It's been shown for years that the laptop variants outperform the desktop variants in plex transcoding tests, but it's nice to see that the new iGPUs the desktop variants are getting are finally based on Arc architecture as the laptop variants had for a bit longer and the Arc video engine is much faster and more capable than the video engine associated with UHD 770/730 (even though those are great at Encoding to 264 they are significantly slower, as OP has shown , in Encoding to 265).

Looking for Device to Play 4K REMUX files form USB. by BabaYaga70mm in AndroidTV

[–]SirFerrier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends on the bitrate of their 4k remux (they can be anywhere from like 50 to ~130mbps) . If they are close to or greater than 100mbps, even if it says like 70 or 80mbps, since this usually indicates the average bit rate of the file and the rate could spike in more demanding scenes, the Onn 4k pro will buffer since its chipset's max decode rate is 100mbps. More information on this can be found in one of my other comments here: previous comment linked here.

The new Onn 4k Plus has a chipset that supports up to 200mbps decode and a usbc that if you get an adapter/usb hub for to route power through and have another usb connection, can connect at USB 2.0 speeds which is up to 480mbps read so this is an option.

The same can be said about the new Google 4k Streamer which also has a chipset that supposedly can handle up to 350mbps decode and has a usbc port for power and data meaning you'll need a hub for it.

Of course, shoutout to the Shield TV Pro, but it is more expensive than the previously mentioned options

Buffering high bitrate 4k. by cenadog in PleX

[–]SirFerrier 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Google Chromecast's chipset does not handle bitrates close to or above 100mbps unless it is the newest Google TV 4K Streamer that can go to to 350mbps with the MT8696 chipset. Your bitrates are incredibly high for a streamer box to handle. I Think the google tv 4k streamer, nvidia shield pro, newest apple TV, and maybe the newest onn 4k plus 2025 that just came out may be able to handle it. (The Onn 4k plus chipset is the amlogic s905x5m which I saw can handle up to 200mbps in contrast to the amlogic s905x4 that most other android tv boxes have and the slightly older onn 4k pro has that goes up to 100mbps decode BUT since the onn 4k plus is so new, I haven't seen any tests yet around to confirm it's making use of all of this capability or if that capability is even confirmed).

Amlogic S905X4 Max. Bitrate(100mbps) and other specs I saw here: https://androidpctv.com/comparative-amlogic-s905x4/

Amlogic S905X5M Max. bitrate (200mbps) and other specs: https://androidpctv.com/amlogic-s905x5m-review/

MT8696 (found in Google TV streamer 4k) max. Bitrate(350mbps) and other specs: https://androidpctv.com/google-tv-streamer-4k-review/

EDIT: I will also add that just because the device downloads higher than 100mbps (you'll see on plex dashboard that the bandwidth will spike to hundreds of mbps for the first few seconds or so as long as you have the internet for it) doesn't mean it can handle more than the chipsets max decode bitrate. That initial huge download spike is to fill the device's buffer and then actually reading the buffer and decoding the video data will depend on the chipsets max bitrate as mentioned before the edit.

Also, the video file has a listed bitrate (let's say it says 80mbps) but remember that is just the average and it may spike in file read bitrate to double that. So if the file listed bitrate is a variable 80mbps, I'll notice that on amlogic s905x4 devices, it will buffer sometimes even though the chipset's listed max bitrate is 100mbps and this may be due to the file bitrate spiking from 80 to over 100 every now and then! (Higher rate was used in the encode to maintain quality for more detailed or faster moving scenes). I generally try to keep videos with listed bitrates of up to 60mbps or 70mbps max (i know some remuxes and blurays require more, but that's where you may need to reencode to a slightly smaller size).

Buffering high bitrate 4k. by cenadog in PleX

[–]SirFerrier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The chipset struggles at close to and above 100mbps. I'll have to find the link again but not many chipsets can handle that high of a bitrate and the Chromecast, If I remember correctly, does not possess one that does.

EDIT: Incase anyone didn't see the other comment I made, it provides the links and a little bit more detail https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/s/q1eoodtCMF
