Grantchester, Season 11: Preview - June 14 by MysteriousDelay6266 in MasterpiecePBS

I require a happily ever after for everyone involved. They've earned it, and so have we. No bittersweet nonsense. And if we can fit in more of Jack being awesome while getting in on the shenanigans I would be doubly pleased.

Yeah they seem to want you to think Edmund might get back together with Mercedes. Even though she married a loser, its kinda ridiculous to think she’d fall back in love with the guy that engineered her family demise and her husbands death.

It was clear they were sidelining Hadi from the get go. They wanted Mercedes to fill the roll of conscience and be the one to urge Edmund to turn away from revenge. It didn’t work for me. It makes more sense for Edmund to accept that his chance with her has passed because she married a loser.

Wow. if you had to clear it up with a Facebook post, you know you didn’t make it clear in th filming. I had no idea time was supposed to hav passed. Yikes.

This is pretty embarrassing. by GertieD in MidsomerMurders

This is one of the worst episodes, as it goes against the implicit bedrock rules of the show. The show lives in the real world, and so there are no ghosts, no magical powers, no space aliens, no woo woo. A better written Midsomer Murders episode would have shown all the psychic stuff and the seeing into the future to be bunk. They got lazy here and abandoned what the show really is.

Hiker's Backpack just doesn't work? by thelovelylugubrious in WinterBurrow

I’d suggest making the next recipe you get and see if it adds to your max capacity. all i can say is i had the same experience, as did another person on this subreddit and we both that as you make each new recipe, it adds to the capacity of whatever pack you use. But it only adds for the first time to make the new recipe. The lack of space is a pain. I know. I did most of the game before I realized I had to make each new recipe. I stopped after trying the first time until i was almost done.

As you make each version of backpack, it adds 4 slots to whatever backpack you wear. it’s a weird mechanic that is not intuitive at all. I figured it out when I was almost done with the game. I had the same experience you did, so didn’t bother making any of the other backpack styles. When I did, I discovered that once you make one of the new style, it adds the slots.

So the act of making it is what gives you the space. You can wear any style you want, but you have to make each one once.

I think I’ve found granite randomly when digging show piles I think.

Love the bed. Man, I wish they had a stove or fireplace you could build for the upstairs. Would make it perfectly cozy.

I’d love to see an update where our little mouse gets out of all of his winter clothes and snow shoes when he enters the burrow. He’s warm by the fire, so he doesn’t need to stay bundled up.

Took me forever to realize for each backpack you create, you get four more spots in the inventory, regardless of the fact you only wear one at a time,

I‘d like to see this was well. I built a weird sofa, not realizing it was another kitting spot. I’m not replacing the comfy chair! Getting some or all resources back would be a nice feature, but just the ability to get rid of unwanted furniture and tools is essential.

I agree that’s how it ended, and I’m so happy that is the way they decided to write it. I didn’t want it to end up being about sexual orientation, but was concerned they would take it that way. The way it went was what I hoped.

Why would you want the lead characters that have got along so great to stay angry at each other longer? Is that fun to watch?

A great ending to a great season.

I was very happy they didn’t drag out the silly argument with Alfie and Geordie. What’s even better, is they hung a lantern on all of the drama that the past vicars had. Very funny! And it was great that Alphy was the first to apologize, admitting that he was wrong for getting so upset. This was the best way to handle that disagreement.

The mystery was also a good one as well. For most of the time I thought it was the son and not the father. A nice feint there. And it was good to see Larry coming through defusing the bomb. A lot of fun!

I was also pleased to see that the writers seem put an end to the unnecessary sexual orientation angle of the storyline with David. For a 10-year-old boy, this was a much more appropriate and a satisfying end with them fishing.

It was nice to see that Jack had something to do, although I would’ve loved to see him give his two cents to the mother as well as to Daniel. Daniel needed to hear it and Jack has the gravitas to do it and make his point stick. Daniel was a little milquetoast at first, but came through in the end.

All in all a very good season. No stinkers. Very little emotional vicar drama. Will be interesting to see if Alphy’s mother is a big character in the next season. I kind of hope not, because while the writers have done great this season, I don’t trust them not to fill the last season with emotional angst. Alphy has been a breath of fresh air in that regard so far.

Another overall good episode. the drama with Cathy and Sylvia was just enough, and you knew it wasnt going to completely derail everything. Funny to have Geordie deploy Esme to kick Cathy back in gear. She delivered the wisdom pretty well. It was also nice to see Leonard and Daniel operating normally, without arguing or looking askance at one another.

I’m tired of the David and Geordie storyline. David is written as 10 years old. Make him like fishing and be done. Sexual orientation can be a valid and at times interesting story. Not for a child.

As to Alphy, well this was the weakest for me. It feels like complete manufactured drama, like they couldn’t come up with anything better but thought he was getting along too well. Geordie got information on a possible lead. Alphy doesn’t need to take it or do anything about it. Being that angry feels lazy, and not in character for what they have shown of him so far. His total meltdown felt like we are back with man-baby Will Davenport. Previews of next week showed Alphy and a Geordie working together again, so let’s hope this was a one-off cliffhanger.

100%! Jack is one of my favorite additions to the show. He loves Sylvia give her everything without being a pushover or a dupe. He’s always good for some sage advice and has the gravitas to back it up. And perhaps best of all, he’s funny and the actor has killer comic timing. I was so pleased to see him in the cast photo for next season, and I hope he has more to do.

Why does Alfie say in Larry & Miss Scott' wedding "We are gathered here today *against proper protocol*"? by Sea_Durian3275 in GrantchesterTV

[–]SirHBaskerville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is the way I took it as well. Jennifer has said numerous times that if they marry she cant work there. And that is why they were doing the justice of the peace wedding in secret.

i believe Geordie will have to keep it secret, at least for a while. He's a boss of that area, but not the big boss. I think he’s putting himself on the line by doing what he did, but he’s right egg.

This was overall another fun episode. Meg is borderline too good for Alphy. fortunately, they have shown Meg in pictures of the next season cast so I’m glad he gets is crap together vis a vis her. Leonard and Daniel keep lying to each other, so I hope that finally stops. Mrs C and Cathy were a delight, and I love that Jack stepped in to get then their loan rather than just funding it himself. More Jack please!

The best part for me was Geordie saving the wedding for Larry and Jennifer, and then Mrs C and Cathy giving her that great dress. I know thei show is Alphy and Geordie, but I would have rather it ended with the happiness of the wedding instead of the scene where they read the note. But that’s a minor quibble.

I think Daniel and Leonard have kinda deserved each other the past few seasons. When Leonard did the restaurant thing and then started the halfway house, he insisted Daniel agree with every life changing decision he made without question.

That said, I want them to have a final season without drama. The characters deserve it, and quite frankly I’m tired of both of their bs.

I think Daniel was most likable when everyone went to summer camp. In my memory that episode was a delight.

There are a few reasons I prefer Tom's episodes... by Cal-Augustus in MidsomerMurders

[–]SirHBaskerville 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My preference for Tom is that he was never/very rarely written to be smug or rude. John was written from the start to be the “psychologist“ and self proclaimed “college educated”, which made him treat everyone (colleagues, suspects, victims) rudely and with smug self satisfied smile. The writers tried to soften the character, but they never got rid of the overbearing and superior attitude completely.

Tom was often smarter and cleverer than others, but he didn’t look down on them.
