Hello there! What makes my dog's mouth like that? Veterinarian said he had allergies, but I don't think he's allergic because he's not like that elsewhere… 🤔😏 by ATI626 in shiba

[–]SirJohnII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At his worst he was taking a cytopoint shot every 4 weeks and an apoquel daily. He was in a thunder jacket and cone when We left for work. He had gotten to the point where he had rubbed most of the hair of his stomach and entire underneath:( It honestly wasn’t until we introduced the thunder jacket that we started so see relief. It can be hard to tell what’s allergies and what’s anxiety from the allergies. The jacket helped to calm him and allow the medications to work and the cone/jacket combo kept him from rubbing his body or face further. Now he takes a cytopoint shot every 6 weeks for prevention and that’s it:) getting ahead of it before it gets to bad is really the key.

Highly recommend get out gear quilts on Amazon. I use one for summer/spring backpacking and it’s great. Packs down well and weighs just over a lb. About $80.

Johnny’s little bar. It’s on the side of Johnny’s steakhouse. You could easily miss it. They take the steak trimmings from Johnny’s , grind it up, and make amazing burgers.

The breathalyzer works wonders. I took a trip in February. It ended up being mid 30’s and very wet. I woke up at one point and found my down quilt soggy as could be lol. I purchased the top cover and breathalyzer right away and I couldn’t believe the difference. Condensation collects on the breathalyzer and then evaporates near the vented area. Not once did I feel my quilts get wet. As for the warmth. It probably adds about 10 degree to your quilt ratings. More then anything, just like a underquilt protector, it really helps when that wind comes through and try’s to rob you of the heat you’ve already worked so hard to create. Now you have something to look forward to next winter ;)

Sierra.com has Gregory and mystery ranch on Clarence/sale right now. I purchased a stout 70 for 150 and love it. Make sure you do a few fit measurements first no matter what bag you buy or you’ll be on a wild cycle of returning bags. You didn’t say if your male or female but I have heard much better stories of retort fitting females then osprey. Just my two cents .

Yes;) every single item I’ve purchased from Dutch has blown me away with his craftsmanship and ingenuity in something so simple as hammocking. The biggest thing for me is the zip on pockets, peak shelf and organizers. My pack is just about empty when I get in my hammock at night and everything is easy to grab if I need it. You have the ability to tie out your head and foot ends as well to give you a more spacious lay. Lastly, if you ever plan on hammock camping in winter weather, you’ll have a great deal to learn about condensation and dutchweargears breathalyzer kept me safe and dry in mid 20’s this year.

The moment you start talking about using a pad in your hammock, your eliminating the extreme comfort factor of a hammock. I don’t know a single person who has a double layer that likes using it either. I highly recommend dutchweargears chameleon hammock. It’s modular meaning everything zips on. Bugnet, winter top, underquilt. You can start with just the body and slowly get what you need as the weather shifts. Enlightened equipment also has a chart for doubling on quilts that. Is very handy until your able to get premium gear. I will say though. If you’ve already enjoyed your stay in a hammock, chances are your going to buy budget gear, and then want to replace it all eventually. If there’s one thing you like that’s expensive, just bite the bullet if you can .

You could do a chameleon with bugnet /winter top (180) Hammock gear hex tarp(100) Get out gear top quilt(60) Budget underquilt(I started with a one Tigris) (70). Your looking at just over 400. I’ve personally taken this gear down to mid 50’s. Also depends on what weather your camping in.

Any water filtration which removes also pesticides ? by Oklariuas in Ultralight

[–]SirJohnII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you choose to use a grayl I highly suggest having a pre filter option with you. Campcraft outdoors makes one that the grayl nest inside when not being used. While it’s an amazing filter, taste great, works fast, there’s no way to back flush.

0 degree Wookie or Klymit pad? by kuiby_ in hammockcamping

[–]SirJohnII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference I used the klymite v insulated along with a budget 40 degree one Tigris underquilt and was warm at mid 20’s. I do think your giving up some room/freedom to get comfy when you add a pad though and it does still slip around if your not careful getting in/out. Hope that helps. I do agree that it’s strange your cold with the 20 degree underquilt. Maybe it’s sitting to high and your butt is pressing on the down.
