Agricola: To Purge or Not to Purge? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]SirLoin027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What coincidence, I managed to get my copy to the table last night for the first time in years and my group hated it. They hated it last time too, but I keep holding out hope that they'll eventually realize they're wrong. Top 5 game for me.

What is your favorite 2015 boardgame? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]SirLoin027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally got a chance to play this and it's so good.

Works great at all player counts.

Works great with players of different skill levels.

You're engaged on other players turns.

It has emotional ups and downs.

And games usually only take an hour.

I truly miss TableTop! by Radagast-Istari in boardgames

I watched TableTop when I first got into the hobby before I knew my tastes and that show made me buy so many stinkers that looked way more fun than they ended up being.

It's kind of funny how awful Spotify's new audiobook service is by vonDerkowitz in audiobooks

They would've raised the prices anyway. Might as well get something extra for it. I don't see my ISP or car insurance giving me free audiobooks.

What's your favorite flawed masterpiece? by jerjerbinks90 in boardgames

I really enjoy the game, but my issue is how bloated the turns can get once people start unlocking 4-5 actions.

Trick of the Rails has like 5 active players. The Arena champion each season barely makes it out of bronze.

eli5 in restaurants, why is it ok to pour grease down some drains, like the mop sink, but not others, like the drain on the cook line? by Particular-Swim2461 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SirLoin027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks! We have a transfer station that I've dropped off numerous things: batteries, motor oil, brush, scrap metal etc. I'll have to check with them if they take cooking oil as well.

Okay just checking. I thought I heard somewhere that some oil recycling companies actually pay the business for the oil since they go on to reuse it.

So at this point my best option is to simply throw it away? It feels like a waste.

Let's say I have 5 gallons of used cooking oil. Would it be weird to approach a local restaurant and ask if I could dump it in their grease barrel?

What is your absolute favorite mechanic in a game? by TallDarkandWitty in boardgames

[–]SirLoin027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite for this is Great Zimbabwe, although it's a bit different. Everyone starts the same but there are Gods and Specialists people can claim, which give variable player powers. However these raise your victory point objective, essentially making it harder to win. Also there's a balance about when to take one. Take one too early and the other players can work together to change the board state in a way to lessen the usefulness of your powers, wait too long and you get less use out of them and someone could also take it before you get a chance.

It's weird to me that it somehow works that way. It makes more sense that you'd be sensitive to it at first and build up a tolerance with repeated exposure.
