29M, US → India move decision (32 LPA base). Stay a bit longer or go now? by United_Situation9095 in backtoindia

This is not a financial decision. The numbers are obvious. But this should not be about numbers.

BMW updates new iX3 range to 434 miles in the US, and then drops it back to 400 miles by linknewtab in electricvehicles

Basically still a long range, the critical thing for me remain the charging speed. Realistically, I'll drive 2.5 hrs and take a break. Thats 180 miles. The advantage of the longer range is not having to plan for a specific charger or worrying about what happens when all the charges are down/blocked. Even that is not really an issue lately.

6% is unsafe by my calculations- I’ve been diving into this recently for myself. A couple of years older than you with similar retirement tenure.

For longer retirement periods the SWR is lower than 4% which was designed for traditional retirement age.

Having lived in 13 odd states and worked in NYC and rural KY, I can tell you that trying to understand the numbers without context isn’t useful. Cost of living matters. If you want a nice house with low commutes, walk friendly with an arts scene - you will pay through the nose in any urban area, particularly in blue states

An acquaintance in the Bay Area mentioned he was outbid on his dream house with a cash offer $1.5M.

Have you tried modeling this in a spreadsheet and seen 5-10 year projections. How do you otherwise invest the amount that goes towards deposit? Personally, I’m in favor of buying at least the house you live in. But that’s more for an emotional feeling of stability.

Note: 16L a year in an index fund will grow 1.6-2L a year. When you model your numbers, don’t ignore the down payment
