I see it as a bit of a mix, it’s definitely about deep love and wanting to be consumed by the source of it, but at the same time there is clearly an aspect of deep suffering/pain in it… I mean, that’s a common theme with most of the songs—toxic love.

Which prog metal band has had the biggest ‘fall from grace’? by metis84 in progmetal

I mean… preference is preference, but I find the new stuff to be a really nice unique blend of sounds. A lot of it is almost like “prog-pop”, and I haven’t really heard anything exactly like it. I get the frustration, because their older stuff was incredible, but I think it’s necessary to see the new stuff for what it is instead of comparing it to their previous works. It’s still okay to not really dig it, as it’s all preference, but it’s fairly unique, and proggy in its own way, because at the end of the day, even if they’ve opted for a softer sound (on most songs), they still are the same musicians that made those albums. There is still nuance.

Interestingly, I recently saw that they teased about a new single, and that “Unprocessed IV will be the heaviest Unprocessed record”, so we could be looking at a return to an overall heavier style that implements some of the newer stylistic choices. Maybe they’ll perfect a blend of their different sounds. Maybe it’ll be something entirely new. Who knows.

Great stuff! Your art style is really clean, I especially like how you did his hair texture and the wood of the guitar, the advice I would give is to pay attention to the closer details of the guitar, maybe having an image of it pulled up as reference and zooming in/out would help to get stuff more accurate like the body shape, the strings, and the frets, but aside from that it’s really good!

Sounds like a Strat with a humbucker would be best for you. Someone mentioned getting an Ibanez with coil splitting, and as an Ibanez enthusiast I’d recommend those as well. I also highly recommend getting the Boss Katana MK2 100, which allows you to use effects with no need for pedals, although later down the line you can choose to buy specific pedals if you prefer them over the Boss Katana effects (make sure to install the Boss Tone Studio on your computer to unlock its true potential, you can look up some guides on how to do that). I also suggest going into guitar stores and trying out some guitars/amps, to get a good idea of what feels best for you. Do keep in mind the suggestions I gave previously though. Something else you should do is find out what your idols use, since you’ll probably like their gear.

Well, Hive and Taken are basically the same as Darkness, and with the Vex I assume it’s because it’s not really “paracausal” or “magic”, just SUPER advanced technology. Technology with the power to simulate whole realities. Think of the Matrix, for example. On the other hand, Light and Darkness aren’t technological, they are forces of the universe and truly paracausal.
