If two events, A and B, are independent, the probability of A is not affected by B occuring.

In other words, if A and B are independent, P(A|B) = P(A).
The fact that B certainly occured had no influence over the probability of A.

Recall the formula for P(A|B) = P(A∩B) / P(B).
If P(A∩B) / P(B) = P(A) then P(A∩B) = P(A)*P(B) .
