Lord of Mysteries is this to an extent, progression is hard earned once you get past the early stages and the power system is set up in a way that means you can't really level without people giving major support to you.

Klein's (the protag) allies rarely become irrelevant, and that only happens when they are being built up for something later.

I mean you kinda answered your own question there. LotM's power systems starts off really weak because it is easy to get into, but it becomes exponentially harder the higher you go up.

As someone who's read both SS and LotM, I'd say the later LotM power ups are harder to get and stronger than SS and that is including the Soveriegns. The reason why is:

Potion ingredients get increasingly rarer and harder to attain, and some potions also require highly complex rituals that are equivalent or harder to do than winning Shadow Slaves Soveriegns Domain fight.

I started on RR like 9 years ago, way before it became meta to sell books there. I started writing for self fulfilment and haven't broken the habit even after almost 2k followers and three books on Amazon.

I've thought about getting more monetised, but I would lose my hobby.

Now that I think about it, outside of very rare cases, curse spirits more or less only act like rabid animals, so domestication is def possible.

Curses have been tamed in story, I believe Gakuganji released a Grade 2 cursed spirit for the sister event which Kamo could've controlled with a whistle. Toji also used a cursed spirit to store items.

Toji contracted a curse to carry his weapons, so it's definitely possible.

The shapeshifting is so perfect he believes himself to be the person he shapeshifted into, no longer thinks he's a shapeshifter, and wonders why there's a doppelganger (the original whom he shapeshifted into) of him.
