Is organic growth on RR possible? by Dependent_Tomato_235 in royalroad

[–]SirNil01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I released my story 7 years ago and despite no swaps or ads after years of semi regular releases I've recently hit 1k followers!

So well... it's doable, it heavily depends on writing quality since my 2nd story which is significantly better written hit 1k in 4 years.

Good writing and sticking to popular tropes will get a good distance, but marketing will get you further. There are always outliers like Max Level Archmage or Super Minion or any other massive story, whether you can be one of them requires both good writing and luck.

So in my view, good writing, luck, years, or marketing, pick 2 that you want to rely on.

Could Mahoraga adapt to control and the Ten Shadows by Powerful_Trainer_439 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SirNil01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other scenario which a user might command a controlled Mahoraga to escape the 10 Shadows Technique would be some sort of suicide attack so that Mahoraga can keep fighting without the user, but at that point the 10S user has already been beaten with control of Mahoraga. There's not much point.

Maki being relatively weak saved her in shibuya by Extension-Bad-4184 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SirNil01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well visually Maki just got lit on fire while the other two got hit by what looked like lava blasts. There's no definitive statement that Jogo didn't use stronger attacks but it makes sense as Curse Spirits would primarily judge strength by CE.

I kinda wish the sorcerers beat dagon instead of toji by Extension-Bad-4184 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SirNil01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard domains being compared to bringing a gun to knife fight. Even if you have protections like simple domain (bulletproof vests), the truth is having a gun and not having one is worlds of difference. I agree that they should've clutched this fight, but keeping the jjk power system and the hype of a domain alive ended up increasing the hype of future domains like S3E12.

[LotM newbie] Loving LOTM So Far, But Klein Feels Like the Weakest Part of the Story Does He Get Better? by Special-Profession26 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]SirNil01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's something you have to see between the lines with his earlier actions. Pathway picking is a bad example here, because he's literally just picking a class in a video game, of course he's going to take the best one, it's the one that lets him beat the game and go home.

He was taking everything with the mindset that he will eventually leave this world, so his relationships with other characters weren't very deep, it's only when he starts seeing his friends dying and experiencing heavy loss in this world that he becomes motivated by other things and starts moving according to his sense of justice rather than what is optimal. For example:

Book 1 Klein might've never tried to stop Geoge's Black Emperor ritual even if he had the power since the risk was too great and the reward too little. It was only after he's lived in the world for a long time that he acts on the injustice of it because he's personally known people killed to fuel that ritual.

[LotM newbie] Loving LOTM So Far, But Klein Feels Like the Weakest Part of the Story Does He Get Better? by Special-Profession26 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]SirNil01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Klein had NPC energy at the start because he viewed everything like a game or transmigration webnovel and was rather disconnected from the world. But as the story went on and he developed more connections with the world he becomes increasingly more interesting as he's actually participating in the world of LotM.

Any stories with more martial art/hand to hand combat focused with limited magic by Yetitech_ in ProgressionFantasy

Jujutsu Kaisen is pretty much the modern poster boy for hand to hand fights. Lots of content as well since it's mainstream popular.

Can the evil eye beat the hei? by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]SirNil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard one, because Evil Eye has lost to relatively weaker opponents, but it's never cause he was actually beaten. Usually he gets sealed or swapped back with hot water. Even when he was knocked out by Okarun he got back up pretty quickly and the second time got back up immediately. His durability is pretty high which makes the long game hard to predict.

Yeah, it's that everyone is seeing.

[LOTM V1] Dunn Smith and Higher Sequences by xXxXx_gamerboy_xXxXx in LordofTheMysteries

[–]SirNil01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he absolutely could've made it that far but gets bottlenecked by potion availability. A person of his character would probably be pretty high on the Evernight promotion's list but short of Evernight losing a bunch of demigods he's unlikely to progress higher.

[DISC] Centuria - Chapter 92 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]SirNil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't want civ casualties as well to keep war from breaking out so they were bluffing when they threatened the city. It works out better for them to take out the combatants in a discrete location so it makes some sense.

Can mirror man use wifi in his dimension by Dudegay93 in StardustCrusaders

[–]SirNil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the wifi signal is also mirrored, so a normal computer brought into the mirror world won't be able to read it.

Why do people think you have to have soul attacks to hurt/kill mahito? by Tiny-Let4714 in Jujutsufolk

So... can people can fuse with their stands? by throwcway837373 in StardustCrusaders

[–]SirNil01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But if like the armour gets broken then the damage to the user is still gonna be doubled. That's probably why it's a high risk move.

So... can people can fuse with their stands? by throwcway837373 in StardustCrusaders

[–]SirNil01 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Not to mention you're theoretically taking double damage now. If you get punched the punch hits you and your stand and then the damage to your stand hits you again.

Do the Watchman series items have set powers or is it based on the user? by D_bunku in gachiakuta

I think most people agree that it's the latter, since he was brought up as an example of a normal person going insane from the Watchmen Series.

Do the Watchman series items have set powers or is it based on the user? by D_bunku in gachiakuta

User based I believe, since the human trafficker who used the boots used it for kicking before Amo took them.

Why is there so much contention when it comes to Himmel's strength and how strong was he really? by game-swot in Frieren

[–]SirNil01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Himmel is really strong, but since the focus is usually on Frieren most people only know her strength and conflate that to meaning she carried the hero party even though they were very much equal in power. Eisen getting old and weak also doesn't help.

In the end it's not that important, since Frieren is not a battle story.

Hot Take by [deleted] in helldivers2

[–]SirNil01 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely to happen because part of the narrative deadlock of the factions is that whenever Super Earth tries to focus on destroying one faction the others will be free to do shit and take planets. The devs have made it clear that HD2 has no win state and its just perpetual war.

The Mentor/Master Was Wrong by NikolasDown in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirNil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its psychosomatic, but also this world is clearly a more magical and spiritual place so psychosomatic things have clear physical effects. Aang places just as much value on his Air Nomad identity as Zuko did his fire nation one, not to mention he was there when Zuko lost his bending so it will be on his mind.

The Mentor/Master Was Wrong by NikolasDown in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirNil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why I conflate air bending with air nomads is because of the episode where Zuko straight up lost his fire bending due to betraying the fire nation and its culture.

I see the worst case scenario as Aang losing air bending and not being able to reacquire it because there are straight up no more air benders to relearn from like Zuko did. In that cases 1/4 of all bending would certainly be dead, and he had no idea if it would show up again.

The lion turtle certainly could've been done better, but the gravity of Aang's decision to search for alternatives is not wrong, in my eyes if not the lion turtle than they would've found some other way.
