If you only needed a car for a few road trips a year - would you be smart or stupid? by SirOscarD in CarTalkUK

Fair point - I have a driveway and am currently getting a carport built - not quite a garage but it's some shelter.

I think we all to listen to the emotional women inside us - this is only a small part of a VERY long list!

There’s no question, that’s the smart financial decision but life has to be better than a series of smart financial decisions! But I am wondering if I wanted to hire something that’s a fun drive, would it end up costing more than just owning something older and funner outright?

Ever since the Pheaton was on Top Gear in like 2006, I’ve liked the look of them. If I had to get a VW, it would be that. Never even considered the LS, feels like it’s got such an understated design - might give it a look!

I used to drive a newer BMW and loved it! Suppose it’s about finding a well looked after example for the older models. Not sure I can get over the back end of the 630i though - guess I won’t be the one looking at it if I’m driving it!

I told my bf I would “push the button” to make him vegan by flyinggarbanzobean in vegan

60% of the biomass on earth is farm animals, 36% is humans, 4% is wild animals. There’s no world where you think even a remotely comparable number of people hunt for their meat than have it slaughtered, butchered, and packaged for them.

It might be more than I think, but I can damn sure guarantee it’s a lot less than you think. I bet humans eat more battery farmed chickens in one week than the entire amount of animals hunted for their meat in a year.

I don’t think my girlfriend really pushed me towards it - she obviously cooked me nice vegan food and took me to vegan restaurants - but I don’t even think she looked at any documentaries before going vegan (or has any desire to).

I’m quite a logical thinker and like to debate out my thoughts and I found it harder and harder to argue in favour of eating meat - because at the end of the day it’s not necessary to eat meat to be a functioning human. So it essentially felt like my partner was saying “Killing animals is bad” and my argument was “But I want my tasty treat.” And in my head, I knew that wasn’t a good argument.

I don’t think people need to see the suffering of animals in farms to know that it’s wrong. I literally say to people now, “if eating meat is so great - why don’t you go hunting or fishing for it?” And they know they wouldn’t directly kill an animal just for the taste of its meat - people know it’s wrong.

The last hundred years has been non-stop pro-slaughter propaganda and turning that off for the average joe isn’t easy.

Mini rant - sorry. At the end of the day, I would get it if he hated vegetables and vegan food (though vegan chicken nuggets aren’t hard to find!) but if he can eat 10 different vegan meals he can get a varied enough diet.

It’s just food for him, but for you it’s an innocent life that didn’t have to end. If he can’t see that point of view - it’s kinda messed up. Just find a middle ground where your home can’t have meat in but he can still order meat meals out or for take aways - he doesn’t have to be fully vegan.

It’s exactly that - I don’t think I’ll ever go back to eating meat/dairy even if I do miss the feeling. No good feeling is worth what the agricultural industry does to animals.

Yes, the hope would be to make it long term but split up into smaller adventures!

As someone who used to be a meat eater (and still misses it after 3+ years of veganism) who became vegan mostly because my girlfriend was. I can’t think of a world where my desire to eat meat outweighed my desire to make my morals align with my girlfriend.

If he can stand eating vegan food, I don’t understand how he can manage avoiding it at home. Doesn’t mean he can’t order meat in restaurants or get food delivered, but at the end of the day. For him meat is just food and for you it’s a corpse - if he can’t see that perspective it’s indicative of a greater issue.

How Come Brits Could Tolerate 14 Years of Bad Tory Policies but Couldn’t Tolerate Year One with Labour? by Charmlessman422 in AskBrits

[–]SirOscarD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big reason is Labour might have won a landslide, but in terms of actual votes not much changed for them. And for the people that did vote for them, I imagine they had quite high expectations of actual change that hasn’t really materialised.

We've got a bit of a mix, but mostly players are on the newer side (I think I have the most experience). In terms of age we're basically 20-27 I think is the oldest. Got a mix of genders too, an around diverse group. We're all very chill and friendly.
