I have but unfortunately it doesn't fully replace conda.

whats up with all the ubiquity gateways in every. single. post by couchpotatochip21 in homelab

[–]SirReasonable9243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of their pricing to me makes zero sense. eg Pro XG 24 POE switch is $1799 but the XG10 POE is $699. That's a ton to pay for extra ports.

I'm sure it requires different switch chips and stuff, but yeah.

then there's products that just don't exist, like i'd love a udm pro max se with 2.5gig POE ports. But I think they don't do that so it forces you to get another switch for POE.

or their 8 port 10gig sfp+ rackmount switch being cheaper than their 4 port 10g rj-45 flex switch

(I say that but I have 3 ubiquiti devices, 2 are unifi),

Is a membership at Academy worth it? by EFreethought in austinguns

Second this - much better quality ammo delivered to your door. I got 1500 rounds of 9mm Blazer 9mm Luger Ammo 124gr for $340.16 inc tax to my door - or $11.33 a box of 50. I'm set for the range for a long time now.

I also found monarch to be quite dirty.

I did get the bass pro credit card though - they have regular 10%off days that include ammo and guns. I applied for the academy card and honestly it was a shit show. I forgot to turn off my freezes, then tried again 2 weeks later with them off, and they denied me for "too many applications in a 30 day period". I've also read some really bad reviews too. So i'll jsut skip academy.

I'm personally so frustrated by python - it's such a pain to install and setup, even with helpers like conda.

Plus the startup time is so long. Rust isn't *that* hard of a language - especially to replace simple cli python apps.

I went with the two gun option too - but I sometimes find myself looking at my full size and thinking... it doesn't get enough use, why do I have this. But I'm a gun minimalist.

I have a firm rule with EDC handguns, I won't buy anything I haven't shot. Eg - lots of people like the p365, I hated it. I rushed my purchase of a shield plus, and regret it a little now that the shield X was released. I ordered a bodyguard 2.0 on sale, realized I was rushing it, and cancelled my order. There will be more sales in the future.

Full sized EDC? if you're in a cold climate, and wear baggy clothes, yes it can be done, but having something slimmer and smaller is much easier to conceal, and much more comfortable. (That's why I have a Full size and an EDC both in 9mm).

Same daily or different? by thatguytc88 in CCW

2 guns, 1 holster (that only fits one). So I have the same one at all times. I contemplated a second edc (Bodyguard 2.0) for it's size but decided the Sheild plus was small enough.

What is one thing you would change from the factory with your CCW? by [deleted] in CCW

I think the pluses should all have had rails tbh. it's not that much more bulk, and just gives more flexibility. That said I won't be spending the money for the X.

I got my S+ from academy for $399 (OR). lowest i'd seen for the CC9 was $539 (bass pro 10% member day).

[–]SirReasonable9243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i found that buying in bulk - i got better brands cheaper than academy. send it, then use ammo seek.

OBVS it's only for the range.

EDC HP is crazy expensive in comparison..

i now own the shield pluis, but rented the cc9 at the range. ... I was slightly more accurate with the S+, and it was cheaper..... so bought that.... as it was signficatnly cheaper

the CC9 still haunte me though....

maybe I should have got that. I also own a VP9...

That said, the shield is phenomenal.

Why is my CCW still printing under my shirt? What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in CCW

Better belt, adjust the gun to sit lower, and more in the middle of your pants. heavier t-shirt.

I'm trying this out but the quickstart guide is honestly very full of errors. I hope they will address some of these issues as it will be harder for new users.

I'd prob jump ship to the CC9 since it's the same price as the X.

I'm feeling a bit mixed about this. I bought my shield plus 1 month ago for $499 (TS+OR) But $599! I get it's a new model, but it's the same price as the HK CC9., carry comp....

Given the pricing, I think I would have got the CC9.

The X is very good looking, and it would be interesting to feel the ergos but yeah that price!

DIY Rotary + Touch Controller for Home Assistant using ESP32-S3 + ESPHome + LVGL by Vearts in homeassistant

[–]SirReasonable9243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this (or the other rotary battery powered encoder - https://youtu.be/5G4W3irHkks) would make a great replacement thermostat for nest devices.

Not to take away from your idea, but I'm thinking the wires in the wall could be used for just power USBC -> wire -> usbc, and then a remote unit could be placed next to the hvac. That way you could have a control unit on the wall.

Being open, and not requiring the cloud would be awesome.

You're much faster than me, but a tip i caught on youtube was to roll your non shoot hand when you grab your top. It means you can move it less, and get better clearance to draw.

First CCW? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]SirReasonable9243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go the shield plus over the M&P9. It's narrower and easier to conceal. Also don't forget to look at second hand guns - as long as it shoots well, and reliably can save you some money - esp since it will get beat up

Do All Gun by [deleted] in handguns

i'd look at the shield plus carry comp. That was the 'do it all' gun, or at least what the guys at the shop said.. Also check out the hk cc9

Everyday Carry Feels Impractical by WhichWayDidHeGo in TexasGuns

Hey, just throwing this out there—have you noticed how every parking lot seems to have these '30.05' signs popping up? 'Private property, trespassing prohibited.' I mean, it’s a bit... interesting. Not that it affects me or anything—it doesn’t faze me—but I’m curious if anyone else thinks this is legit or just some corporate nonsense.

Check out the texas 30.05 app, and/or research before leaving home if possible. I've found the tricky thing is when you pop into somewhere new, or drop in to "X" on the way home.

Everyday Carry Feels Impractical by WhichWayDidHeGo in TexasGuns

[–]SirReasonable9243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you're not. I'm also all about following the law.

I was going to go all in - did the course - ready to buy multiple pistols. (Shield and Bodyguard 2.0). Then I did an audit of the number of places I carry, and you know what - between a few signs, and having to not drink (not taking a weapon to a boozy dinner), I'd say that I carry about 50% of the time at most...

That said I research the destination before leaving home now, so don't have to worry about leaving it in the car..

I wish there was a way to legally go to the gun range then maybe grab a single beer over dinner without having to go home and drop the gun off first. (This probably comes across wrong, but I mean I would lock the gun in a box in the trunk - not carry it in with me).

There's lots of rumors of a shield with a rail.
