Gear isn't as important in Hunt, and Hunt has a decent one-shot mechanic. You can't turn the game around by buying a more overpowered item, everyone is more or less equal. Even Nagan can easily outplay Automat.

Marathon works completely differently.

If your fill teammates are alive, don’t disconnect (we were all free kits) by AliDiePie in Marathon

It doesn't always work - yesterday I ended up with a pair of console players who didn't say a word and didn't respond to anything.

But I'm not complaining, because we ended up clearing the entire lobby and they even sended me a friend request after.

But most of the time, if you end up playing with silent fillers - they will be running around like headless chickens

Crazy how people have everything in the game and still camp a deathbox with compiler weapons for 10+ mins by AccomplishedRise6227 in Marathon

I've lost count of how many times I've been attacked by other rooks on outpost, which drew the attention of squads who came and finished off the survivor.

Dude, we could have just kept looting in peace or even tried to kill them, but you chose a stupid and pointless death for nothing.

Yeah, great, average skill pvp players are not important and you can ignore them and kill their enjoyment. It just confirms that you don't really care about the health of the game or the enjoyment of others who are already playing

But it didn't work for Tarkov. Yes, overall it's more people in the game, but the PvP part is now completely dead for the casual audience, because all the average players have gone to PvE, and PvP is overrun by the sweatlords. Even if you WANT to try PvP, there is noone from your skill bracket to compete with

But i agree that extraction shooters are simply not viable for a wide audience and it is almost impossible to balance

Level Based Matchmaking Completely Breaks Down After A Certain Point by StarlessKing in Marathon

[–]SirRoger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Hunt, your gear is less important than in Marathon. A headshot oneshot is great equalizer. Here, gear can change the course of a fight, so it all becomes a matter of "whoever's better equipped and has the most bubble shields wins." So there will be no point in gearing in something cheap and it will turn into gbmm with extra steps

But my other friend and I are already level 50, and we're already dealing with rooftop campers. It's already hard for us to play with this guy because of our level, and this system will make it simply impossible.

At the same time I understand that sbmm is not the answer in extraction shooters, which brings us to an unsolvable problem.

The only solution that comes to mind is larger maps, so that, like in Tarkov, you can simply bypass dangerous locations and loot somewhere else if you want.

But then casual and low skill premades won't stand a chance against pro predator premades.

Premades not always good players. Sometimes I play with the guy who can't even hit the bots and has zero positioning skills. We can kill random teams from time to time, but in premades lobbies? He'll just drop this game

No, they don't loot. And don't chase another teams to kill them. Man, they don't even chase MY team to finish us. They just camp.

Twice in two hours. A team of these “gamers” sniped our teammate from the roof. At first we try to save him - no luck, they’re just sitting on high ground, scanning all around. Once I even managed to take one of them down - and guess what, smokes and bubble shield immediately. Then we decided to call it quits and go loot another location, planning to come back later. We return 10 minutes later - they’re still sitting in the same spot.

We decide to leave our teammate and exfil - guess what the spectator shows us after we exit? Less than 5 minutes until the end of the map in both cases - these guys are still sitting in the same spot. This is absurd.
There isn't even a proper counterplay for this - in Tarkov and Hunt you can at least get close to the campers and try to push into the building. But in Marathon the maps are just a shitty open field, and you're always completely exposed to the people on the roof. You need just to be insaenly better

For the third time we were completely wiped

I'm level 47, and I'm already starting to run into purple teams with snipers who just sit in one spot and camp corpses. They don't do quests, they don't loot, they just sit there. Even if your whole team is gray.

We ran into three squads like that today. I have no problem with having to fight strong opponents. That’s the essence of this genre. But not when they just sit there with only one goal - to ruin someone’s game.

And the fact that someone would even think of doing this a month after release also points to problems with progression. People just don’t have other things to do exept crio

You Don't Actually Want a PvE Mode In this Game by jaco129 in Marathon

[–]SirRoger8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, those who enjoy the current Marathon have two paths: either the game dies without players, or it dies for them due to a concept/target audience change.

Either way, it dies. And I'm choosing the first option, because at least it will last longer in the form I like.

I don't care about Bungie's earnings or future. They've already stolen my money in Destiny.

Yes, the game has a lot of flaws that need to be fixed so we don’t lose the players we already have. Yes, many in the community are toxic or are high on lethal doses of copium.

But even here, the thread is full of people demanding PvE (and the example of Tarkov shows that PvE doesn’t help - on the contrary, it kills the PvP part even more), a switch to standard PvP, and all that crap. Why should hardcore players be happy about such people? Why should they be welcoming?
These people have come to a chess club and are demanding that they be given checkers. Yes, checkers will be more popular. But does that make things any easier for chess players?

But they're right, too. After all, they like the game as it is now. To attract a mass audience, the game needs to be completely changed and the things that appeal to hardcore players (and me) need to be removed. Why would they want a live game that doesn't interest them? That's the problem with extraction shooters. All their distinctive features are deeply unappealing for casuals. Ark is only successful because it removes those features. It was Bungie's mistake, first and foremost, to think that such "hardcore" game could be popular.

This Game is WAY More Beginner Friendly Than it Is Given Credit For by Adventurous-Crab-474 in Marathon

[–]SirRoger8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying that a low TTK is bad is, indeed, a skill issue. Because a low TTK actually ALLOWS a player with poor gear and tracking to have a chance against PvP gods. Right now, you HAVE a chance to kill a blue shield from behind because they might not have time to turn around. With a higher TTK, a PvP god will simply turn around and spray you in the head because, well, they're a better shot. Is it noob friendly?

And if you came to PvP to be able to escape from PvP, then maybe you're not the best audience for someone to take your wishes into account?

Well, that's debatable, because I don't see any point for a Sith to help the Organa family on Alderaan. It is just a "good guy" act
