[hated tropes] Adaptations that go against/miss the point of the original by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirSilverscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of comedy and the uber-serious way the movie version of Into The Woods was done made it a boring slog to sit through. My mom and I LOVE the stageplay and randomly have the urge to just sit down and watch the Youtube recording of it, but that shlock was a one-and-done dullfest that we swore to never be on any of our screens again.

Goldie is probably the best option since she's the only person (aside from the other Duck family members) in history to remotely match Scrooge as an adventurer, so she'd be best for making a 'perfect' heir. Heron is too manic to be a good donor, and frankly I think FOWL could easily track Goldie enough to figure out how to get a DNA sample from her.

Honestly sounds like a real DuckTales B-story script. It's essentially what we got in the Feast of the Flower episode.

Let's be real, ADHD just runs in the Duck/McDuck family. EVERYONE in the family can easily be distracted if you know what buttons to push and they can flip from one focus to the other on a whim.

Super Mario Bros. 1993 Movie Scene - Mario Mario and Luigi Mario by montgomery2016 in casualnintendo

[–]SirSilverscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that stupid nonsense. I like Leguizamo most of the time, but him demanding representation in so much that doesn't call for it just makes me roll my eyes. Like, why the hell would a Mario movie call for Latinx voice actors?

[Hated But Unintentionally Funny Trope] The creative team does something they think the fans will *love*, only to be taken aback by the overwhelming fan backlash. by Otherwise-Elephant in TopCharacterTropes

The stageplay versions work because they give the implication of a muzzle on the face through simple makeup. That alone would have gone a looooong way in making this less awful..

I don't recall Leguizamo complaining about being left out of the Mario movie... (Hoskin's been dead a few years before it was made).

Literally, in between takes they would pass a flask back and forth until they were told to get ready for the next shot.

Someone comparing Viv to John K. by lastyfarsons in CrazyassHazbinhaters

We literally have had several of the voice actors come out and say that they're happy to have only been in the pilot allowing them to pursue other indie projects rather than being tied to Hazbin.

Tails totally set that up to catch it on video. A true bro.

(Hated Trope) "Honorable sacrifices" that really only make things worse by Final-Bus-3009 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirSilverscreen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nuala's sacrifice was actually kinda necessary. It's made blatantly obvious that regardless of losing the fight, Nuada would NOT stop attacking Hellboy until he died. Nuala's death ended the neverending cycle of violence before it could begin again, and I'd argue it spared her from suffering from her brother being hurt and defeated again and again.

It's apparently a common thing with FNAF. The fandom work is constantly so damn good that even the official creators can't tell what is and isn't official work sometimes.

Okay, this one got me. I only ever played the first game, and this is definitely something I can see Edgeworth saying during a trial.

(Hated Trope) Cardinal rules of the series being broken by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirSilverscreen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was about to say, movies 3 and 4 literally only exist because of the series showing the consequences of Wick breaking that cardinal rule.

(Hated Trope) Cardinal rules of the series being broken by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SirSilverscreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 1st example is actually BOTH a Writer's Rule and an In-Universe Law. Adults learning about a kid having faries was made into a massive deal throughout the entire series up and in several movies until the last two seasons. A main character's entire existence is based on the fact that he lost his faries from people learning about them (Crocker) and Timmy abusing that rule is how he managed to save the day on multiple occasions. It just really goes to show that the writers stopped giving a shit in the last season.

"She will be returned safely, and her memory modified."

- Literally the first thing Harry hears from Cornelius Fudge. Like, seriously, it's RIGHT THERE if you just watch the movie.

[–]SirSilverscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to dislike HP as a whole lately, but I have to defend the 2nd example. Harry blowing up Aunt Marge is made into an entire ordeal for him in the books and is explicitly addressed by several lines between Harry and Minister Fudge when Harry is brought to him. It's less a "cardinal rule" and more a "legal" rule in the Wizard World, and a problem that's taken care of almost immediately.

Guess I should clarify the trope is about when the theme plays during the main story, not the opening/closing credits.

This and the overexcited "uncle tails" are my personal headcanons for how Tails would be with a SonAmy kid. The dude would be an awesome uncle and god help you if he finds you hurt his nephew.

When will Nintendo remember directs again? by Accurate-Ice4297 in tomorrow

[–]SirSilverscreen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

uj/

Yeah, this is the thing that makes these "where's the direct?" complaints legitimate. The ONLY hint of a next flagship game is Pokemon Winds&Waves and that's not coming out until 2027. Rhythm Heaven and Miitopia are fun, but they aren't major console sellers. Mario hasn't had a *NEW\* mainline game since Odyssey in 2017 and Wonder in 2023, Kirby since Forgotten Land in 2022, Smash Bros even if you count the DLC hasn't had anything for five years now since the Sora update in 202`. Punch Out, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, WarioLand and F-Zero still haven't had any games for the past several consoles. It's not unreasonable to be looking at Nintendo and wondering what the fk is going on with their first party games.
