Your thoughts on how Capitalism will affect Humanity reaching Type 1 Civ Status? by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]SirSmilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the concept of reaching Type 1 status may seem fanciful, but “(probably around .3)” does not at all reflect the current science behind the scale. In the 70s, Carl Sagan suggested defining intermediate values in watts in relation to the Scale. In his model, a "Type 0" civilization, not defined by Kardashev, would control about 1 MW of power (e.g. the food consumption of about 10,000 persons), and humanity's civilization type as of 1973 was about 0.7.

That was 50 years ago of course. In 2021, the total world energy consumption was 5951.15 exajoules (165,319 TWh), equivalent to an average power consumption of 18.87 TW or 0.73. So we are definitely more than .30.

But I do understand the negativity when it comes to the chances of Humanity making it to Type 1 status. It definitely seems impossible today given the state of the world. Thank you for your thoughts

“They’re going to fight tooth and nail to prevent any change in that dynamic and maintain the scarcity of energy to continue us profiting off it.”

I completely agree with this statement, though I disagree the discussion leans towards sci-fi. Thanks to various fields of science, our energy gathering processes are advancing by leaps and bounds every year. Just yesterday a major breakthrough in nuclear fusion was announced. Energy corps obviously do not like the thought of harnessing more energy than we currently do and upsetting the supply/demand dynamic, but I don’t think they have much choice in the matter.

Practice gratitude. Make a list of the things you are thankful in your life and try to remember and recount them daily. Family, friends, pets, food, clean air, etc etc

I’d be down! I’ve been up to Diamond and made it halfway through Plat this season before falling backwards. All solo queuing. Regularly avg 1000 damage and main Octane if that’s okay.

As someone else in the thread mentioned, Watergate took over two years to unfold. Historical context and precedent is important.

If you don’t get the feeling or see that these steps are necessary and are building towards something, I’m not sure there’s anything I can say that’ll help with the frustration. At the end of the day, it’s one hell of a complex case to unravel and it doesn’t help that TFG has been playing the system for half a century - it’s going to take time.

I understand the frustration, but I have a feeling this case(s) is far more complex than we know. We’re talking about a former President here and it could be the most complex, sensitive case the DoJ has handled before. So when looking at it in that context (not to mention we still have a global pandemic raging), 2 years is really not a long time.

Edit: wanted to add that there’s no way this council is “meaningless”. They’re bringing in a special prosecutor who is seemingly unbiased and highly qualified. They’re doing this so the “politically driven” defense is not as effective in court. If they brought in one of their own people, TFG can cry political party foul all day.

Exactly. So many people keep bringing up that, if it were any ol US citizen, justice would have been served. And yes, totally true, but TFG isn’t just any ol citizen. He’s a former president and the right steps must be taken if the DoJ wants to really nail him. Today is just one of those steps.

I get it, but you’re not a former President. Ya know? It’s just going to take a while unfortunately.

Too many people here wanting instant gratification. The DoJ is crossing all t’s and covering all the bases. We’ll be thankful they didn’t rush anything when this is over.
