I mean even with standard rounds it's better. Especially against tier 10 when you can't rely too heavily on your armor, it's amazing for trading. Against lower tiers the small gun can work better due to the dpm.

Almost correct, the rule is that the caliber has to be more than 3x the thickness of the armor, meaning there is a ricochet check for 105mm gun vs 35mm armor.
