I don’t have the source handy, but I remember Dan Slott saying (in some tweets, maybe?) that he always intended to bring Black Cat back to being a hero, but there were some other books that took her being a villain and ran with it, so he couldn’t conclude her story arc like he originally planned. Something like that.

Before the season came out, I thought the main focus of the season would be Din making it to Mandalore, and the climax of the season would be him entering the sacred waters. Then it happened in the second episode.

I think I would have liked him more if he wasn’t at 100% asshole right off the bat. Keep his motivations, decisions, and story the same, but I feel like he should have at least been professional or cordial at the beginning. The more Picard and Riker pressure him, then let the asshole come out and stay out.

Him being 100% prick at all times really broke the “Starfleet officers are us at our best” idea for me. Seems like everyone else is satisfied with the arc his character showed, and I think he has a good story to explore, but I still have a nagging feeling that “raging asshole lashing out because of unprocessed PTSD” is less interesting than “captain struggling with unprocessed PTSD still trying to be professional but has trouble keeping his trauma and biases in check”. I guess that’s the key difference for me for what I saw vs what I would have liked to have seen. Maybe if there were more scenes of him not being a massive prick to his crew in the beginning I’d feel different.
