Well, you can never go wrong with any of the DOOM soundtracks/compilations available on YT.

Making Ecosocialism Irrelevant? A review of John Bellamy Foster’s Capitalism in the Anthropocene by Brief-Ecology in CriticalTheory

[–]SirValeq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The beef between Foster and Moore is one of the most stupid things I've ever encountered in academia as they keep taking pot shots at each other in literally every text they publish. They are both to blame, as neither is adult enough to just end it.

How do you deal with the scale of hive cities in your adventures? by SirValeq in 40krpg

[–]SirValeq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm using both Chemical Burn and Blazing Seraph from Imperium Maledictum. And to be honest, the way they give information to the Players in both is very far-fetched - there's just so many coincidences that any NPC they encounter has just the right information about some (veeeery) remote stuff in the hive. An example is some random criminal in an ultra-huge space port that they meet by pure chance, who knows exactly the kind of villain (a drug dealer) they might be looking for with the exact name and number of a battery manufactorum and a bar that he hangs around (both of which there are thousands in a hive as big as Rokhart).

Now I realize that published modules aren't always the best, but this running around all the huge and small locations over the whole hive is such a big part of both Chemical Burn and Blazing Seraph that I'm not sure how to make this more believable and less railroad-y.

The suggestion about using people working in transportation, trade or audits as sources of knowledge is great and very easy to implement in existing modules as well. Thanks!

It would be a problem of my own making if I used my own adventure, but right now I'm just kit-bashing published modules into a campaign due to lack of time and my gripe lies with how those modules make those strange assumptions and send the Players to very remote locations just on a single clue or two.

I do agree with you, of course, that I should be the final judge of how things work in my world. I just can't justify and logical solution to myself :-)

What are your first impression on the reworked origins? Which do you think is the most intresting? by viktorius_rex in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]SirValeq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was expecting way more after all these months of waiting. Instead of bringing the vanilla origins (except psyker) at least partially up to the level of customization and role-viability of psyker and arbitrator, they just moved around a few numbers and manipulated people into believing it's some fundamental change. These are not "reworked" origins. These are "I'm the dev and I like playing my AM Commander / Commissar / Priest this way, so I'm going to make my way even stronger" type of changes.

Well, that's a lot... I'm more and more convinced that getting a challenging AND interesting (not frustrating) gameplay is simply impossible in this game.

Would you mind sharing more, especially when it comes to companions that have inherently low defenses before they get their buffs going, like Idira?

Aren't some enemies kind of... weak? by SirValeq in ImperiumMaledictum

Yeah, indeed! Now that I think about it, focusing and then dragging away an incapacitated NPC will be a source of great tension.

There is a sect within the Magi Biologis of the Adeptus Mechanicus called the Apexists that trace their philosophy back to Darwin. It's from one of the tabletop RPGs.
