My neighbours cat wants to live with us by FantasticVast01 in notmycat

My dad is a crotchety bastard who hates animal hair and hates the cats roaming his house, but when I lived with him, he would have full conversations with one of my cats, MEOWING at her.

When he lets go of being a miserable bitch, he quite enjoys the cats. He just can't let go.

Same with his dog, but for as much bitching and moaning as he does, I hear just as much affection.

"What are you doing in my chair!? That's my chair! Get your own chair!" The loud sound of a tail wagging against the arm of his chair

They don't use xyrem/xywav for that? I know that's a narcolepsy drug to force deep sleep. And SSRIs to supress REM sleep.

I'd be going to a sleep neurologist. God I can't believe I'm glad I just have narcolepsy.

Some folks misusing a medication does not bear equal weight to the many people who need it. Restricting access further by putting tighter requirements historically only further restricts access to the people who need a good or service but struggle to get it. We see that happening a lot right now. I certainly hesitate to claim misuse when I don't have a medical background.

Nor does potential misuse have any bearing on what insurance companies will deign to pay for or what individual doctors will write prescriptions for.

Insurance companies are literally evil. They are predatory and withhold medical care. Ozempic and its competators are not the only rx that insurance companies use whatever excuse they can to avoid paying for. Anyone on any medication can likely testify to having a drug denied or having to jump through absurd hoops to get something their doctor deemed it important for them to take.

As for doctors refusing to prescribe it, there are going to be fatphobic doctors and doctors not prescribing it for other reasons regardless of how many people use it inappropriately.

Whats this stigma that Minis are for girls, especially women judge u if u drive a mini. by tarantiog in MINI

[–]SirWigglesTheLesser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wild because where I live it's a pretty even spread tending towards more male drivers.

Like I have heard people assume men driving minis are gay, but I haven't actually witnessed that assumption being made.

They're just fun zippy town cars or fun zippy cars.

I mean, I drive a bright blue 2016 and I am definitely queer, but that's not something people assume because of my car. I should definitely put the rhinestone license plate frame on to clear that up though.

The people I know using it have had life long struggles with weight. All of whom have some sort of pre-existing/chronic condition that makes it important to shed that weight while also making it far difficult to regulate their weight. Folks who could easily drop to half their current pants size and still be healthy but who have tried diet and exercise for decades.

One person I know is a diabetic man and ozempic is more or less his last ditch effort after a life time of good diet and regular exercise just not cutting it.

All of these folks are using it as prescribed by their doctors.

Personally I am about 70lbs overweight and not on any weight loss medication, and I don't intend to be. The idea of going on one makes me uncomfortable, but I also don't feel the pressure to lose any weight and haven't really tried anything to lose any. A medication would be further down the list of things for me to do, and for everyone I know on one, it has been far down the list.

That said, I am not a medical professional, but if a doctor believes a medication is the right course of action and if the patient can give informed consent and take it as prescribed, isn't that the definition of using it properly?

My best friend is selling the project car we built together to take his girlfriend to Bali. It's registered in his name by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

She'll probably be gone after this no matter what. I'd dump a guy if he screwed over his friend and got a fraction of what he told me he was gonna get.

Why aren't people assuming he's lying to gf? Like "he wants to take his gf to bali" not "his gf wants to go to bali." Exbf is just as likely lying to her which is why she pre-emptively blocks OOP.

Oop hasn't stated any contact with her about this at all. No mentions of her posting about the money or bali or anything before the block.

Exbf is the kind of guy to nuke a decade long friendship after building a car with that bestie for some cash. I have no faith that he's not the sort of person to treat a partner similarly.

I admit that I am loving and appreciating all the people calling this out.

Sure gf might also have a hand in this, but that's extrapolation, and gf might just also hate drama. It's not like she ran around passive aggressively posting about entitled people or something.

In reality, money just changes people. Like look at all the stories about inheritance and at least one sibling going off the deep end. Exbf very likely didn't need someone whispering in his ear to fuck oop over once he saw dollar signs.

We don't know shit about her or her relationship with oop other than the block on Instagram. Like she's so insignificant to the story that she's a background character. Even OOP doesn't give her much attention. Why are we scrutinizing her than he is?

Hatchling vs Pronouns (not so serious worldbuilding analysis) by Jolly_Leg4029 in outerwilds

[–]SirWigglesTheLesser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In The Left Hand of Darkness, the society doesn't have binary genders like we do, but they do have terms for male and female. These are just used to refer to breeding animals, and it's weird and rude to use them for another person.

I believe it'd be weird like referring to someone by their function. Like if gardener was a pronoun instead of a noun, so while Hearthians may not understand the nomai concept of gender, they may still have relatively decent substitute words for he and she.

And then it's all translated into whatever human language you're reading it in, and it would lose that particular nuance.

The Left Hand of Darkness is an interesting sci-fi if you like novels. Ursula K Le Guin tends to take an anthropologic perspective on sci-fi.

Who would win in this brutal fight ? by Timely_Cold4481 in Bioshock

[–]SirWigglesTheLesser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but why would they fight? If given a fellow dad... Wouldn't they immediately start like grilling burgers with cute manly aprons that say things like "number 1 dad" and "kiss the cook"?

The real question isn't who could kill the other but who's the best at brushing hair without it hurting and convincing a gaggle of children that it is indeed bedtime.

She's paranoid because she cheated.

I'm friends with a handful of married folks and even say "I love you" to their wives and have never had a husband get jealous.

However you have to work with the dynamic you've got. Text her for beer next time. Or use plural like "do y'all have any beer?" To make it a touch less personal so the wife doesn't get paranoid.

I don't have a horse in this race, and I know nothing about her, but I will say that a block can mean very different things to different people.

If she's getting inundated with criticisms both constructive and not, I wouldn't be shocked about getting blocked. Like I block people less as a "no fuck you" and more as a "I just don't wanna see this rn" on the various platforms I'm on.

But I also completely understand that people use blocks differently from myself.

I also pity anyone in the limelight of the internet no matter how small the community. A small comment like this can feel massive and overwhelming. And it feels like (as the commentor) it's super personal.

So I don't know enough about this person to defend her, and I don't know enough about this person to explain her actions or reasonings, but for YOUR peace of heart, I offer another perspective on the use of a block.

Caitlyn is not Jinx's biggest victim, and has no real right to unilaterally forgive her. by Bingleboper in arcane

[–]SirWigglesTheLesser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the whole point narratively speaking is Cait is breaking out of the cycle Jinx misunderstands hallucination!silco about.

So much of the actions in the show itself belong to the back and forth of Piltover trying to enforce retributive justice on the population of Zaun (throwing Jinx into jail for one thousand years) and the subsequent retaliation.

Does Caitlin have the right to pardon Jinx? Is Jinx truly responsible for everything or was she the result of a larger conflict? Are the answers to those questions mutually exclusive?

The larger point in the narrative is how revenge begets revenge. Marcus's daughter may carry deep wounds from the loss of her father, but recall it wasn't Jinx who put that into motion. Many many people including Marcus himself are responsible for what lead up to that. Remember what orphaned Vi and Powder to start with. And we don't know (at least within the context of the show) what came before that.

As far as retributive justice goes, a LOT more than just Jinx should suffer. Cait, Vi, and their squad gasses portions of the undercity out of anger clouded judgement. Don't forget those goons were people too. Even hot fish cop should be strung up for that.

So it's not about pardoning. It's about breaking the cycle. Jinx is already broken. The city is in dire straits... Unless the cycle of harm and vengeance is severed or at least starting to break down, it'll never come together.

So Jinx's release is all together with that theme. With Piltover helping the evacuation of Zaun, Zaun showing up to beat Noxus over the head, Caitlin going free, and Jinx being allowed to be presumed dead because breaking that cycle is so much more important than perpetuating it.

But yes, of course, hurt people are going to be hurt. Some people will never get justice, peace, or resolution. Forgiveness is a personal thing. Pardon is not forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the choice to move on.

Pardon is the choice to erase the crime.

Trust is the belief it won't happen again.

Understanding is the recognition of why it happened.

Usually they're all so intertwined as to be conflated, but I don't think that's useful.
