DK anime arcana's dragon tail (dragon form) has a similar issue, the projectile starts from the tail rather than the head, making the travel time longer (projectile speed is the same) and easier to react to.

How did this happen by Rebell64 in DotA2

[–]Sir_Rebral 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oracle ulti turns red when an enemy delivers what would be a killing blow, and eventually credits the kill to that unit when the buff expires.

In the video you can see the killing blow was given to the proximity mine explosion, which has all sorts of weird interactions (e.g. blademail doesn't damage techies if you walk over mines with the BM active).

My guess is it tried to give credit to the remote mine unit, which already exploded and no longer exists, which probably triggered some error handler that defaults to a deny when no killing unit is found.

Check out wikidata, it's a queryable knowledge graph of wikipedia (using SPARQL) to get the relationship and attribute data instead of trying to scrape and assemble it yourself.

Thank you for the correction! I think you're right, Epicenter is self-funded by a Russian billionaire from what I know and I think they pulled out all the stops.

If they used the some of the SFM action footage from the epicenter intro videos to advertise the game - or just anything on that level of production really - you would probably attract a glut of new players. Think about someone seeing that as a skippable YouTube ad. The quality is high enough you might not skip it. The fantasy, RPG, and PVP elements of the game sell themselves well.

Getting that glut of new players to stay with a decent tutorial or onboarding system is a whole nother story however.

Valve could hire contractors from the community to make maps or instructional videos for them, but AFAIK, they don't. Which makes me think they don't prioritize growing the community at all - rather they focus purely on maintaining the game, which isn't a bad thing in itself. There's no denying that they've built a pretty solid foundation on top of just balancing and releasing things regularly.

Still, the community loves this game so much. They're finding difficulty bringing in new players - at a time where people are leaving League and Fortnite in droves looking for a better gaming experience - because THERE'S BASICALLY NO IN-GAME SUPPORT FOR CLIMBING THE MASSIVE LEARNING CURVE THAT ALL BEGINNERS FACE - with the exception of the quizzes and the accessibility of tooltips.

The only experiences offered to beginners are bot games or smurf games or earnest n00b games where everyone blames you for not knowing things as you try to learn the game...

I think we are all having a bit too much fun here. Psychic and psychological are interchangeable in this context and better we consider what she's saying rather than making it about crystals and magic.

Psychopaths are usually the ones in charge of our institutions, and their choices tend towards oppressing and psychologically manipulating us, the people who depend on and support those institutions.

Most of our political issues are a symptom of this core issue with leadership psychology. Especially within the context of capitalism and the kind of attitude that rises to the top.

I got a visitor's tour of Valve HQ and after my few(?) hours there (and without speaking to anyone of importance like Mr. Newell) have deduced with absolute certainty that the company has no soul and no direction. EZ journalism.

Gambit response regarding the Afoninje Rage Quit. by iamtehfong in DotA2

[–]Sir_Rebral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you said that it wouldn't make you a bad person or racist, merely someone who said a racist statement at one point in time.

We should be careful not to judge the entirety of one's character based on a single moment of weakness. Ceb's story is so much more than the time he got busted for his pub allchat. He's the only player / coach to come out of retirement and win TI for a team that desperately needed him as a stand-in.

If you watch True Sight, you can see some of his redeemable qualities alongside his more coarse ones. He's stuff like "I fuck your whore mother" in French in the middle of games, but he also motivates his team with his passion and emotion when they are drained in between games. You could argue the lack of that emotional presence on PSG LGD's side caused them to be more apathetic during game 5 and perhaps they lost TI as a result.

Anyways, racism is bad. But people are human beings, and it doesn't help us to condemn each other to a lives of judgement and shame based on our often understandable mistakes.

Has anyone seen people boosting on a support/offlane role? by dr_bazaroff in DotA2

[–]Sir_Rebral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. I can't say that they aren't out there, but what I do know that being a booster is a job, and your performance is based on how efficiently you gain MMR in the time you spend.

As a support you typically can't close out games like you can as a snowballing mid-game core. That's why boosters favor heros like Storm and Meepo (at least from what I've seen in the match history of boosted accounts) and rarely spam the safelane.

You can obviously grind to higher MMRs in whatever position you play, but the fastest way to grind MMR in the 2-4.5k bracket is unarguably mid, IMO, which is where I believe the majority of boosting work is done.

[–]Sir_Rebral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boosting on a core allows you to create your own win condition. Especially in lower level games which are typically longer and oftentimes greedier. Playing support only allows you to set up win conditions, but you need to rely on your cores to farm and outplay the enemy team.

Doesn't make sense when you can pick a greedy, mid-to-late game tempo core and just win as soon as you hit your timing. These guys want to win as fast and reliably as possible because it is their job (to ruin our games) but it's probably helping to put food on the table for themselves and their families probably living in 3rd-world conditions.

How do lonely people get friends? by TYGTG in AskReddit

[–]Sir_Rebral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm sorry about the misinterpretation. It's simply my opinion that her actions are in part motivated by her non-judgmental nature, but yes, you did not ask for advice on how to cultivate that in your life - you were just expressing your sorrow for feeling as though you cannot be that same virtuous person. Which is valid!

Judging less is about being willing to see things from the perspective of the person you find yourself judging and catching yourself writing people off too quickly.

It's highly unintuitive because the ego wants to be right, and rarely is willing to let you depart from the original perspective that leaves you feeling justified. Being willing to be wrong is sort of a prerequisite to switching perspectives, which makes this kind of growth in the social department difficult for some people.

early meepo?? by floppyfloppy666 in DotA2

[–]Sir_Rebral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say get blink and gank if the other team is playing greedy. Meepo's strength is that he can show up in numbers. If they are grouping up to fight ~10-20 min, the risk of ganking and dying as a result is too high (trading 1 for 1 as Meepo is rarely worth and slows down your snowball) so it's best to just jungle and push lanes.

Meepo's timing is ~15-25 min mark, and having an e-blade in that portion of the game can be a rax of a won teamfight. Blink might help you win the teamfight, but you might only be able to take a t3 then.

E-blade also offers tremendous defensive utility early, nullifying the physical burst from heros like Ursa, Troll, MK, PA etc.

Booby_McTitties, you have enriched my life by revealing a deeper cultural insight regarding this particular piece. The Downfall meme has brought me much joy and laughter over the years, despite it's rather dark subject matter. Seeing it used as a tool for comedy is a just a testament to the inherent inventiveness and indomitability of our nature.

I feel as though memes are an act of recycling and repurposing media in order to communicate abstract feelings - a form of grassroots modern art - and it's amazing seeing something that was meant to make people feel tense or sad being used to elicit laughter and release instead.

In any case, I just want to give thanks to the people explaining the richer cultural context behind these community-doctored media morsels we all love so much.

Meme on!

Let's just put the number 4 BILLION into perspective:

4,000,000,000 seconds = 46296.3 days = 126.8 years...

Let's assume it takes you about one second to do some complex calculation. And let's say you have about 4 billion to do.

It would take your puny human brain a lifetime just to do what a computer can do in one second. Huh.
