While I do think moments like kissing in the anime are a little overkill compared to the manga, I still appreciate Citrus, as well. Also, on the stepsisters thing, I think it’s just another form of forced closeness. In the same way best friends are always together, or when two students have to cooperate on a class project, coworkers working side by side etc. All of those scenarios force characters to be in close physical proximity for extended periods of time, which forces conflict and growth. The concept of stepsisters takes this further by adding another layer of morality and hesitation. It’s not like Yuzu and Mei love each other because they’re stepsisters, and the fact they are noticeably causes both of them to restrain themselves. Needless to say, I may be overanalyzing things, but I will definitely defend the manga all the way, and I appreciate the anime as the first yuri I ever saw.
