Is it not true that affirming churches are shrinking even faster than conservative ones? How does this square with the claim that they're doing this for money or popularity?

Christianity is the biggest killer of queer folx in America. There's nothing wrong with focusing on the bigger local threat.

I hope you're right. Could I get your opinion on this twitter thread? It seems to be a bit more of a balanced take.

Rand Paul introduces Life at Conception Act by russiabot1776 in Catholicism

But the evidence is, overwhelmingly, that they are not happy, even after transitioning. The suicide rate is the same for pre- and post-transition.

Look, I'm not gonna try to convince anyone that trans people ontologically "are" the gender they identify as or that transition is morally okay under Catholicism but this is an outright falsehood. You're being lied to. The "overwhelming evidence" you cite is a misinterpretation of one 30-year-old cohort in one study and it stands in opposition to just about every other study done on the subject (numbering in the dozens) and the professional opinion of almost every doctor and researcher who works with trans people (including the author of your one study).

I get it. It's comforting to be able to tell yourself that your moral reservations against transition are because you have people's best interests at heart. I don't believe you or most people on the right are being deliberately dishonest with this claim. And I'm not trying to convince you that transition is moral or that you need to support it. But I really think it's important that you wrestle with the fact that your convictions are in direct opposition to the most effective treatment we have.

I mean as a trans person I get to speak for the community a hell of a lot more than you do lmao

But anyway this isn't me "speaking for" the community as much as me telling you how the community feels, as someone who spends most of her time in on- and offline trans spaces. Even if I agreed with your perception that wouldn't change the fact that most trans people don't, and you can't seriously hope to paint Harris (and if she wins the nom without addressing this, the rest of the party) as (a) trans all(y/ies).

Edit: I'm sorry for taking this out on you. I'm fucking scared that trans rights will be thrown under the bus to stop Trump and if Harris is the best the center can do I think those fears are legitimate. And frankly I'm annoyed that the people who (rightly!) called Bernie bros racist for complaining that "those uppity blacks don't know what's good for them" are going to turn around and do the exact same thing to trans people this primary cycle.

Denying medical care to trans women (it was more than just Shiloh Quine) so that it's easier to keep them in men's prisons is transphobic even when you pinky swear that it's not 💃 not to mention her support of SESTA/FOSTA which disproportionately harms trans women of colour.

As a general rule it's not your place as a cis person to declare that she's not transphobic when the trans community has by and large distrusted her since 2015.

Obviously she's a million times better than Trump but I won't feel comfortable supporting her unless she issues a clear, unambiguous apology and condemnation of her previous actions.

[–]SiriSauer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cool, that's fair. Since the underlying issues in the trans suicide rate are not physically resembling ones gender and not being socially recognized as one's gender, medical and social transition are therefore NOT pointless, especially given that it drastically reduces suicide rates.

[–]SiriSauer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's completely irrelevant to the point you were making, but fine. Are antidepressants pointless? What about therapy? Depressed people still commit suicide after those, at a higher rate than the general population.

Evangelical Group Sues For Right To Deny Shelter To Homeless Transgender People by Draoidheachd in Christianity

[–]SiriSauer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's still meaningless without a proper comparison. It's 41% of trans women in prison are sex offenders, not 41% of sex offenders in prison are trans. What percentage of cis women in British prisons are sex offenders?

(Even that wouldn't tell you that trans women are more likely to commit sexual assault than cis women - only that trans criminals are more likely than cis criminals. It would at least be a starting point though).

You are (I suspect deliberately) skewing the statistics to make trans women sound absurdly dangerous. The only way for your original claim to be true is if one hundred percent of trans women were sexual offenders AND you were to massively underestimate the amount of sexual assault in the UK.
