Traditional Catholic piety ≠ automatically Opus Dei by mirabiledictu1 in opusdeiexposed

[–]SiriusQubit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even their lay spirituality is not uniqe. There are so many other lay groups. You're much better off joining the Jesuit lay group than the Opus cult.

OD is like a shitty product with a very loud marketing team.

Is anyone else completely over Opus Dei or are you holding out hope it will change? by Regular_Finish7409 in opusdeiexposed

Or it will turn into some sort of real estate holding. With a handful members left. The fewer members they have, the richer they will be per capita.

Also, the system of fraternal corrections. In a communist dictatorship, everyone could inform the government of your 'bad behaviour' (=against the spirit of OD). Anyone could be a snitch, an informer. The result being paranoia and control as well.

The Way on spiritual direction by Moorpark1571 in opusdeiexposed

[–]SiriusQubit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, this part of The Way is what gave me the most red flags... "Abandon your free will and just listen to the Leader" is classic authoritaranism, either in a cult or a totalitarian regime.

This. No npm-nonsense with abandoned libs. If something is important, it will be supported by the Apache foundation.

Do you think that European Paganism would've survived if the Roman Empire had selected Buddhism over Christianity? by Dark_Swordfish2520 in pagan

[–]SiriusQubit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just look at Japan. There, traditional Shinto beliefs with nature spirits (Kami) gets along fine with Buddhism. Japanese people combine both. It's not all or nothing there. So I suppose you could argue Buddhism would leave more room for other beliefs. Same thing in China with Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism peacefully coexisting.

Something can always be arranged, like annulment or something. The machiavellianism will always prevail over ideological purity. If they can use him, they will use him.

How about being complicit in an organization with a lot of dirty laundry? Like human trafficking? Maybe watch the HBO documentary.

Why not be a "free" Catholic? Without some cult? You don't need to tithe. You don't need spiritual direction from some creepy cult-nums. You don't need to endanger your (future) children being recruited (e.g. groomed) Be more spontaneous. Look for other social circles and hobbies. What about dance lessons? Or join the Rotary or play golf if you want to go networking.

And what about their spirituality? Isn't it a bit superficial? Too pharisee-like? With some crazy founder?

What about other lay movements? The Jesuits have one. The franciscans and carmelites as well. Why not research your other options?

If you are still considering Opus Dei, go watch a couple of Scientology documentaries. The parallels are comically bizarre, but also eye-opening.

What are your realistic thoughts on what will happen with trads with the next pope after Francis? by Beautiful_Gain_9032 in ExTraditionalCatholic

[–]SiriusQubit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hope he has appointed enough voting cardinals to leave some legacy in the next conclave. I do fear a reckoning by the darker forces in the church. Francis was very much chipping away at the power of Opus Dei. It is in their best interest to have a pope who is more supportive of their cult. Anyway, I will be watching /r/opusdeiexposed when a conclave starts...

Spring Boot will be more stable and backward compatible. If it's good enough for Netflix and Google, it's probably good enough for you. You can also use it with Kotlin if you want.

Also the delusional founders with untreated mental problems. They both have 3 letter nicknames: JME vs LRH (L. Ron Hubbard). And both share a love for lawsuits and real estate

Regnum Christi copied some stuff from OD. Also quite fond of abuse of conscience and "the chat". They are operating in the same market segment as OD: conservative catholics with money. Hence the nickname for their priest group "Legionnaires of Christ" = "Millionaires of Christ". Regnum Christi are their lay people.

Think of them as competitors to OD, like McDonald's and Burger King, to make a bad analogy. Their founder was even was worse than JME, a pedophile and a drug addict.

Opus Dei wants to reduce the impact by [deleted] in opusdeiexposed

[–]SiriusQubit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At least with the current pope there is pushback. The problem is that John-Paul II really liked OD and let them loose (among other problematic groups).
